I still haven’t written Charlie’s 12 month update and he’s turning 13 months in 3 days!  Since Charlie was born in December, I had been planning on creating a calendar with pictures of him from every month in 2010 and using those pics for my update post.  The downside of taking so many pictures is that it takes forever to go through all of them.  How those moms who manage to take care of their kids, work, clean, cook, craft, blog, and still look good is beyond me.  I usually look like a troll doll.

But I have to get this post out before I forget what’s been going on in Charlie’s life! Interspersed are pictures from the Santa Ana Zoo and the La Habra Children’s Museum when we were in LA.

The Santa Ana Zoo is a really tiny one, but Charlie had a blast anyway. I thought he’d be too young, but he loved the monkeys and the birds and just walking around.

Sleep

Charlie is still taking two naps a day. He can make it through the day on one nap only if his schedule works out perfectly. He can stay up longer between naps though, so it means shorter naps overall to keep his 7:30pm bedtime, which he is not happy about. The boy loves his naps and he sleeps better at night when he gets good naps. This is his typical schedule:

6:00am – 6:30am – Wake up
8:15am – 9:45am – Nap #1
1:45pm – 3:00pm – Nap #2
7:30pm – Bedtime

Charlie only slept through the night once while we were in LA. I don’t know if he was waking up because he was in a new place, he was still sick and coughing, or because he was teething, but his sleep has been pretty much back to normal since we’ve been back to his regular schedule here. Overall I think that Charlie is a pretty good sleeper… post sleep training that is! Luckily we’ve never had to do it again.

Eating

I’ve mentioned that Charlie is not a big eater. Well he ate a lot (for Charlie) in LA! I think it’s because he never sees us eat at home. We usually eat when he’s napping because it’s just easier, and most of the time I just starve or snack. Since he saw people eating all day long at my parents’ house, he was a lot more interested in eating since he’s in this big imitating phase. He actually prefers solids over milk sometimes now! He loves to feed himself, although he doesn’t always get much food on the spoon. He also loves when we give him water directly from a cup instead of using a straw. He started in the 90% for weight and is now in the 25%, but I’m not too worried. I think he’ll always be a finicky eater. His favorite foods right now are porridge made with coconut water and bananas (which he didn’t like previously).

Walking. Charlie stood without support and took his first steps a month ago, and then for a couple of weeks he was content to just take a couple of steps here and there. But this past weekend, he was walking all day. He walked halfway across his bedroom and the living room, and has been taking more than 10 steps at a time for the first time. He’s going to be walking really well soon!

Hope you’re staying warm!  This is a pretty brutal winter in New York this year and I already can’t wait for summer.
