When our daughter turned 5 months old, something amazing and wonderful happened–she developed the most delicious rolls my husband and I had ever seen. Naturally, we did what any parent would do. We nibbled on her rolls and blew the loudest raspberries all over her body, giving special attention to her round belly.

Seriously, who could resist these?!

As the months passed, our biting addiction grew. We nom nom’d on her fingers, chubby toes, arms, and legs and it became second nature to us.

I love her toes

One day when our LO was around 13 months old, she randomly bit my toe! I yelped and told her “no biting!” in a stern voice. Later that day as I was doing the dishes, she came up behind me and bit the back of my thigh! Again, I yelled in surprise and told her “no biting!”

I’m embarrassed to say this, but the biting continued for the next two months and my husband and I had no idea why she was biting us! I had bite marks, red welts and bruises all over my arms, calves, thighs and chest. Of course we didn’t put 2 and 2 together and continued to nibble and mouth all over our LO’s body.  Mommy and daddy brain?

I remember mentioning the biting to @Mrbee and he said our LO was biting because we nibble and mouth on her!  Okay, gotcha, we’ll take it down a notch. Of course by this time we were completely addicted to the biting and couldn’t control ourselves when we saw exposed fat rolls or chubby toes.  LO’s biting continued, however, so we finally decided that enough was enough and we needed to stop ALL nibbling and mouthing.

We thought we were in the clear until my LO bit me on my tummy one day!  I figured it would take some time for her to learn from our behavior, so we decided to give it a couple more days.  The tummy biting didn’t stop.

Lightbulb!

We never stopped blowing raspberries on her belly.

I told DH that the raspberries had to stop too and we were both really sad.

It’s been a week since we stopped all nibbling, mouthing and raspberry blowing, and I’m happy to say that our LO hasn’t bitten us in three days! Hooray!! It’s working!

Every day is a struggle for us though. Although our LO has slimmed down a bit since learning how to walk, we still want to bite her chubbs so badly it physically pains us that we can’t.

I feel like we’re recovering addicts. And honestly, the only thing getting me through this is the fact that maybe one day I’ll be able to nibble on her again (when she understands that biting is a big no no).

Do you nibble and mouth on your LO’s body?  Has your LO bitten you?
