my baby girl is 2 months, my toddler girl is 2 1/2. with the first i was so anxious about taking care of a baby and so frustrated that breastfeeding was so hard, and pumping was a drag, that i really just didn't enjoy my 1st one until she was a few months old. i swore with the 2nd one that i would just let whatever happen happen, and not sweat over it, and at the end of the day, to concentrate on doing things that would make me happy and not stress me out. and that's what i did, i didn't sweat the small stuff and i enjoyed my 2nd one a lot better from the very beginning.

I didn't have much time to analyze things. My babies are 20 months apart and for the first year of his life, my son had severe reflux. So that set my kids apart without any effort at all. Breastfeeding was a breeze with the second, compared to the fussy, 45-minute feeds I was used to. And the second one slept like a small rock right out of the gate. She may have had her days/nights mixed up at first, but once that straightened out, I was catching up on missed sleep from his infancy.

We're already planning to change her vaccination schedule, due to his bad reaction to the MMR. Another story...

Really, I'm just trying to enjoy her babyhood more, since I'm so much more relaxed and so is she.

@mjane: I haven't yet, because my friends and I are still doing some trials on our little ones. I'm almost ready to roll out a night time awakening post, but we're still tweaking the method a little. Maybe I should just put it out there and hone it with feedback from the hive!

I'm so much more chill with my 2nd child! With my first I was anti formula and as a result SO STRESSED all the time! My milk didn't come in right away, LO was jaundiced and she was on my boob literally 24/7.
WIth my boy, I supplemented with formula for the first week or so and didn't stress about it. Luckily my supply's a lot better this time around and my milk came in after 3 days.

My DD exclusively nursed and wouldn't take a bottle. Torture! Baby boy mostly gets pumped milk, but I'll nurse a few times a day too. Usually after he gets a bottle. He's a piggie and needs to be topped off with more milk.

I co-slept with my DD. Baby boy slept with me a few times, but he sleeps in his pnp in our room.

Okay. Long comment! I could go on and on but shall stop!
Feeding and sleeping are the two major things I've done differntly.

@ Mrs. Jacks: I would love it if you would write a post about sleep habits that are, from your perspective, both healthy and child-centered. You've mentioned in other posts and on the boards that both these factors are important to you, and I am really at sea when it comes to finding information that fits this criteria! (I'm sorry if you've already written something and I've missed it!)

Good information! Must remember to not hold baby all the time/rock her to sleep every night...and maybe I should read a sleep book or 2?

Great post!

I'm not planning on having another child but, I would love to see another post like this in a year or so - or even sooner - with what you would do differently in toddlerhood.
