I was happy most of the time when I was single, then I got married which is amazing, but was I happier? Then I had kids, also amazing, but did it increase my happiness level? Whatever, I am content with my stage in life and find joy in it, I don't mourn the stages that came before. And that's as insightful as I can be this early...I'll see if I can clarify it more in my head later. I remember hearing about this study on the radio and it just annoyed me. In my personal experience, I wasn't very happy (but very fulfilled) when I had one child. By fulfilled, I mean that when I went to bed every night, even if I was in a bad mood, I was always at peace knowing I accomplished something with meaning that day. I rarely did that before having kids-- only if I had had a great work day, worked out, cooked dinner, cleaned my house, etc etc etc. But now that I have two kids and I'm a working mom, I am happier than I ever have been in my entire life. I think the pressures of parenting have lifted now that I'm a little more experienced with kids and both kids have other primary caregivers during the week. I think I've finally found my place in life and I think every single day about how I'm happier than I've ever been. My friends do comment that I don't seem to have a lot of time to myself and it makes planning things much more difficult, but it does make for a very full life feeling when you get those high moments.
