I recently wrote a post on why I stopped buying electronic toys, and how I’ve been making a big effort to buy fewer, high quality toys. So I thought I would share some of the companies I’ve come across that are making really great toys, but are not as well known.

First up is Grimm’s Spiel & Holz Design, a company based out of Germany that has been making beautiful wood toys since 1978. They use wood from sustainably managed forests, natural oils, and water-based colors that are safe for little ones. Their signature bright colors can be found on many of their toys which feature a huge variety of blocks, puzzles, stackers, infant toys and more that are Montessori and Waldorf inspired. They make so many cool toys that I want!

1) Set of wooden cars; 2) Romanesque Building Set; 3) Mobile Home; 4) Boat on the Water Wooden Stacking Tower; 5) Pull-Along Elephant; 6) Sailboat Puzzle; 7) Natural Nesting House; 8) Conical Stacking Tower; 9) Four Elements Building Set; 10) Goethe Wooden Color Wheel Pattern Puzzle; 11) Roller Rattle; 12) Stepped Counting Blocks; 13) Dwarf Village

Grimm’s toys can be found online at AmazonLand of Nod,Fine Wooden Toys, and  The Wooden Wagon to name a few.
