B A B Y H - 8 M O N T H S
Typical meals on a week day:
Breakfast:
- 1 jar of organic prune puree, 1 serving of baby oatmeal
Lunch:
- 1-2 oz of vegetable or fruit puree (peas, green beans, peaches, squash, beet, apple, etc)
- 1 finger food (organic puffs, organic oat cereal, cooked apple pieces, avocado pieces, banana pieces, etc)
Dinner:
- 1 oz of vegetable or fruit puree (peas, green beans, peaches, squash, beet, apple, etc)
- 1 serving of beans and/or grains (this week: yellow lentils and brown rice; last week: quinoa)
- 1 finger food (organic puffs, organic oat cereal, cooked apple pieces, avocado pieces, banana pieces, etc)
Drinks:
- Breastmilk (nursing morning and evening, 3 6-oz bottles during the day)
*Note: we’re still struggling with how much to feed Baby H. She LOVES food but seems to get constipated fairly easily (despite plenty of prunes and other foods that help in that department), so we are working on feeding her more slowly/mixing in more finger foods so that she takes her time eating and feels full by the end of the meal. If she eats too quickly she immediately starts crying by the last bite and demands more food!

Breakfast:
- oatmeal “fingers” – equal parts oatmeal and liquid (some people mix in fruit puree, but I like to sprinkle some cinnamon on it), let sit for a few minutes, then microwave in a shallow dish for two minutes, cool and serve!
- half of a banana
- greek yogurt or eggs (we only have time for eggs on the weekends, usually)
Lunch/Dinner:
- leftover veggies from our dinners from the week – today it was steamed green beans and roasted sweet potato chunks
- some sort of grain – rice, toast, tortilla, etc.
- fruit – I’ve been loving the convenience of freeze dried fruit right now, but if we have fresh melon or berries I’ll give him that
Snacks:
- We have organic puffs and puree pouches on hand for when we’re out and about and don’t have access to food he can easily eat. The freeze dried fruit is great for this, too – I always make sure there’s nothing extra added.
Drinks:
- water and breastmilk

He eats as much as a toddler! Amazingly he is still nursing as much as he was before starting solids too. I’m not sure where he puts it as he’s only 6th percentile for weight. He is completely BLW now and eats 90% of what we eat (we don’t feed him dairy, nuts or honey).
Breastfeed: 7:30 am Wake up
Breakfast:
- 4 oz. green smoothie
- 1 scrambled egg
- Some type of fruit: his favorite lately has been raspberries, pears and blueberries
Note: because eggs are a high allergen food I did avoid giving them to him until he was about 7.5 months old. Had there been allergies in my family, I would have avoided them.
Breastfeed: 10am
Lunch:
- 2-4 oz coconut milk
- Salmon salad in an avocado: one can of salmon, a healthy fat such as coconut or olive oil (although I still use mayo for myself!), squeeze of half a lemon, a pinch of Mrs. Dash seasoning for flavor and one tomato. He will eat 1/2 an avocado stuffed with about 4 TBS salmon mix.
Breastfeed: 2:30pm
Snacks:
- Mid-afternoon he usually eats fruit; 1 apple, banana, pear, or 5-8 berries. Occasionally he’ll have raw veggies with hummus.
Dinner:
- Stir fry served over sauteed cabbage. We make stir fry at least once a week and use whatever veggies we have on hand. However Cobi prefers colorful food and won’t eat neutrally colored food (such as rice). We usually mix in peppers, broccoli, mushrooms and carrots with some amino acids, red wine vinegar and toasted sesame oil. He will eat two cups of this for dinner.
Our other favorite dinner lately is this delicious beef stew from Jaime Oliver and Cobi is a definite fan! He will eat at least two cups of this stew as well.
Breastfeed: 7:30pm
And 1-2 night feedings as well!
W E E S T R O L L E R - 1 2 M O N T H S
Breastfeed: 8am wake up
Breakfast: 8:45am
- 3 pumpkin/oatmeal/flax pancakes (recipe is on HB)
- 1 cup frozen blueberries, thawed
- 1 oz. mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 clementine
Breastfeed: 11am pre-nap, 12:30pm post-nap, 2:30pm
Afternoon Meal: 3pm
- 1 gluten free bean & rice burrito
- 1 clementine
- 1/2 cup frozen lima beans, thawed
- 1/2 cup frozen corn, thawed
- 1 banana
Breastfeed: 5pm, 5:45pm breastfeed to sleep
Sometimes he’ll eat a little more, sometimes a little less, but it’s always a huge amount for a little guy. He eats it all; he never drops any on the floor! I alternate his meals so that one will be heavy on protein and veggies and the other on whole grains and fruit (but with some protein too.) He’ll have puffs occasionally as I’m preparing his meal, but usually I’ll give him a clementine while he waits.

I would love to hear what other toddlers are eating, because he eats a lot of the same things over and over. He’s a good eater and generally willing to try new things, but I struggle to find time to cook and dislike giving him really messy stuff, like yogurt.

Charlie has been eating so much better the past couple of months. He still has his days when he doesn’t eat much all day, but he also has days where I’m amazed how much he eats and how willingly he tries new foods.
Breakfast:
- 2 fried eggs (on weekends he’ll have 2 zucchini sweet potato pancakes + 3 slices bacon)
- 2 oz yogurt or some fruit
- 2 oz hemp milk + 2 oz water (he loves milk so much we have to water it down or he won’t eat as much)
Snack:
- we don’t usually give snacks on weekends, but if we do, it’s usually fresh or freeze-dried fruit. Charlie gets goldfish crackers, graham crackers, Pirate’s Booty, or fig newtons at daycare
- water
Lunch:
- laptop bento box with 6 different foods, always consisting of at least one protein, vegetable, and fruit
- 6 mini meatballs (w/o breadcrumbs)
- 6 pieces of broccoli sauteed in garlic, aminos (wheat-free, soy-free soy sauce alternative), and sesame oil
- 6 slices cheddar cheese made w/ raw milk
- peas w/ butter, pepper and a dash of salt, pickles, or cucumber
- asian pear and strawberries
- 3oz hemp milk + 3 oz water
Snack:
- goldfish crackers, graham crackers, Pirate’s Booty, or fig newtons at daycare
- water
Dinner:
- 5 different foods on his bus platter
- 1/2 serving salmon (we make it many different ways and he usually eats it)
- baked sweet potatoes w/ butter
- asparagus sauteed w/ butter, pepper, salt
- dried anchovies (sauteed in aminos, sesame oil, maple syrup… but he will eat them even sauteed lightly in olive oil. He’s obsessed with them lately)
- soup (bone broth, seaweed soup, fish soup…. almost any kind of brothy-soup)
- 3 oz hemp milk + 3 oz water

Olive started out as a great eater, and I thought that it was because I already had one picky child and paid my dues. But after an extended period of sickness, she never went back to liking solids again. It’s so bad that I want her to be as picky as Charlie! There are many days when she won’t eat any solids other than a couple pieces of fruit the entire day…. she even rejects snacks like puffs and cereal bars! It could be that she is too into nursing.
Breastfeed: 8am-ish
Breakfast:
- 1/2 fried egg
- 1/2 zucchini sweet potato pancake
- 1 serving cantaloupe
- prune juice (she gets constipated easily) and water
Breastfeed: After breakfast, but a little bit before naps
Snack:
- To pacify Olive when we’re out and about I do keep snacks on hand like Happy Babies puffs, yogurt melts, freeze-dried blueberries/strawberries, rice cakes, and mum mums (all gluten-free), but she doesn’t get them often.
Lunch:
- asparagus sauteed w/ butter, pepper, salt
- small bowl chicken porridge
- couple small pieces of pickle
- 1 clementine
- prune juice and water
Breastfeed: I breastfeed after she eats lunch otherwise she won’t eat solids.
Dinner:
- couple bites of salmon
- couple asparagus stalks (the only veggie she will eat consistently)
- couple pieces baked sweet potatoes w/ butter
- rice balls (rice rolled into balls with seaweed) when she doesn’t eat the rest of her dinner
- 3 oz soup in her sippy cup
- water
Breastfeed: At bedtime, and any middle of the night wakings. I have her nursing 4 times in the daytime here, but it’s usually 5-6 times. She crawls over to me and pulls on my shirt throughout the day!
L I L’ C B - 3 Y E A R S , 3 M O N T H S
Typical meals on a school day:
Breakfast:
- Cereal (Quaker Oatmeal Squares) with milk and blueberries and a clementine
Snacks:
- Served at school — usually pretzels or goldfish (he’s stopped eating snacks on non-school days because he eats more at home)
Lunch:
- Bento with protein, fruit, and veggie. Example: Hard boiled egg, mixed nuts, craisins, clementines, grape tomatoes, steamed broccoli.
Dinner:
- Whatever we’re eating! Example: brown rice, broiled salmon, stir fry with tofu and broccoli, and watered down kimchi!
If he asks for snacks throughout the day, he usually has fruit (apples or clementines right now), yogurt, or an applesauce. Sometimes, he’ll also munch on cucumbers as a snack.

I love this post! Thanks for sharing!
@mrspen: I remember seeing a post on how your LO doesn’t drink out of a straw or sippy (?? I don’t remember). So how do you get him to drink your green smoothie and milk? I’m sorta in the same boat…

This is a wonderful post. We started purees a month ago and our daughter, now 7.5 months, has loved everything we have offered her. I am breastfeeding and she gets a combo protein and veggie puree and toast strips at dinner and fruit puree for lunch.

@enjollah: He will drink from a sippy but with help. Sometimes I just feed him from a glass as well. He is 11 months now but still has not mastered the sippy!

Y is now 7.5 months old. He started with vegerable puree 6 weeks ago, but like his older sisters, he’s not much into it. The girls wanted to hold/ eat everything by themselves. So Y. is still mainly managing on breastmilk and bottle. He started to drink water or tea from a normal cup. My bigger girls (now 3 and 5.5) eat since early age (9/10 months) whatever we big ones eat too- I hardly ever cooked special kids meals.
