Girls have all the luck in the clothing category. The girls’ section is usually double the size and full of color. Plus they have the added bonus of being able to shop in the boys’ section too. I often find more items for my daughter in the boys’ section than the girls’ though. Toning down the girly with something classic or tomboyish is fun. The boys’ sections is also the place I usually find those items I have been on the hunt for: the perfect denim shirt, oversized blazer, fedora, sunglasses, the list goes on. So to find those classic pieces or to add in a bit of tomboy style to the mix, shop for her in the boys’ section. Here are a few of my current favorite boy items that would be great for her too!
Boys’ tees and tanks can be a bit more toned down, paired with a cute skirt, bright pants or a girly pair of shoes. from left to right: Zara, The Gap, JCrew Factory.
Great unisex shoe styles can be found in the boys’ section, and if you want you can switch out the laces to her favorite color. from left to right: Zara, The Gap, Zara.
Boys’ jackets and coats can be a little more classic, easy to wear everyday and to dress up or down. from left to right: Zara, The Gap, The Gap, The Gap.
Almost all my daughter’s favorite hats are from the boys’ section; perfect classics. from left to right: JCrew Factory, Appaman, The Gap.
The perfect to boy touch – pair over a pretty dress, skirt, skinny jeans or just put a cute bow in her hair for the girly flair. from left to right: Zara, Zara, The Gap.
Buy it a little large and it makes an adorable shirt dress, or buy it to fit and obviously it will look super cute. from left to right: Zara, JCrew Factory, Scotch Shrunk, H&M.
Again, the boys section has all the classics – sunglasses, bags, heck even a cute tie (that would look so cute on a girl too). And the vest — just imagine how adorable it would look over a dress, or just over a really pretty top (maybe even belted). from left to right: The Children’s Place, Zara, The Gap, The Children’s Place.
Do you shop for your girl in the boys’ section? Do you have a favorite item you would get your little girl?

I love shopping for P in the boys section! My current fav cardi for her is from the boys sections & I’m eying a great, mostly pink plaid shirt from Children’s Place to get her as a dress once it warms up! Can’t wait!
I never thought to get her shoes from the boys section though!

I think this is a great idea. I am usually doing the opposite thing.. trying to buy things for DD in the girls section that DS can later wear. So far I have had luck with unisex leggings and skinny jeans, but I know this can’t last long since girls develop hips and the fit is going to be off.

I never considered this until I saw Clara on YHL wearing the cutest boyish clothes. I love girls, but not all girls are princesses. Some of us are Wonder Woman.

So far all los shoes are boys. That way we can hand them down still if she has a brother. And we also get her boy pjs. I figure nobody sees them so it doesn’t matter.

love this!!! so great.
I told my sister if she has a girl next she’s in luck since girls can get away with wearing boy stuff and she was appalled haha she said she would never put a girl in her son’s stuff… but I think it’s cute!! I actually bought a lot of items for my son that I would put my future daughter in.
I think sweaters/cardis are the most versatile options! and for babies, onesies and sleepers can easily be neutral.

I’m a mama to only boys here. But, I wouldn’t know how to dress a girl. I love, love, love dressing my guys! I just spent way too much on their spring wardrobe, I must say. And, I am quite positive that if we are given the chance to raise a daughter, she’ll be in a lot of her two older brother’s hand-me-downs.

I also shop from the boys section for my daughter, sometimes the options in the girls section are just too pink and too cutesy for my taste

Love this! My little gal gets a lot of girly clothing as gifts, so I find that much of what I pick out is pretty neutral. Believe me, I do love the frills and pink (I was the poster child in my day), but these days I have a penchant for the classic stuff in the boys dept. Sometimes the girl stuff can get a little too trendy for my taste.
