It’s officially Fall, and with it comes all of its deliciousness…like apples, the quintessential Fall fruit!
And to celebrate all things apple, here’s a quick and easy craft to do with your little ones, or even on your own!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- red yarn (we used about 10 feet per apple)
- green and brown pipe cleaners, cut in thirds
- a small piece of cardboard, folded in half so it’s about 1.5-2″ tall on each side
Start by winding your yarn around the folded cardboard. Keep a finger on the inside of the fold to make it easier to slide the yarn off later. Getting started is a little tricky for little fingers, so I started winding the yarn for Lil’ CB.
Wind that yarn up nice and tightly again and again and again, tucking in the end under all the yarn.
Take a piece of brown cleaner and tie up the top. Then, carefully begin sliding the yarn off the cardboard, and before it’s fully off, slide the second piece of brown pipe cleaner onto the bottom part. Twist up and into the “apple” to fan out the shape and make the pipe cleaner resemble the bottom of the core. Finally, tie the green pipe cleaner around the top “stem”.
Ta-da! How ’bout them apples?!
They look almost good enough to eat!
Think of how cute a glass bowl or hurricane full of these yarn apples would be as a centerpiece… Or, embelish a gift to a child or even a teacher with these little guys…You could even use orange yarn to make mini pumpkins…oh the possibilities! Have fun!
