Since becoming an exclusive pumper, I have struggled to keep my supply high enough for Little Lion’s needs. I have found myself needing to supplement more and more lately, so I knew it was time to try some new recipes for lactation cookies! I made these this week and have been very pleased! They are healthy, taste good, and have all the milk inducing ingredients that work wonders!
Yummy Lactation Cookies (Modified from this recipe)
1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1 3/4 c. oats
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
3/4 c. almond butter or peanut butter
1/2 c. butter, softened (I used coconut oil instead)
1 c. flax
3 T brewer’s yeast
1/3 c. water
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla
2 large eggs
2 c. (12oz) chocolate chips
1 c. coconut
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine flour, oats, baking soda, cinnamon and salt and set aside. Beat almond/peanut butter, butter (or coconut oil), sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, brewer’s yeast, flax and water until creamy. Mix in eggs. Gradually add in flour mixture. Mix in chocolate chips and coconut.
Place balls of dough onto greased baking sheets. Press down each ball lightly with a fork. Bake 8-12 minutes (I like chewier cookies, so 8 minutes was enough.) The dough is pretty tasty too, but be careful…it does contain raw eggs.
The brewers yeast is the magic ingredient…make sure you use brewers yeast and not bread yeast. You can find it at Whole Foods or other health food stores in the protein powder section. It comes in a can. Be aware, however, that brewers yeast is VERY bitter…start with less in your recipe until you are used to the taste. If you have never tried brewers yeast before, you may want to only add 2T the first time.
There you have it! milk-makin’ cookies that are good for you and are pretty tasty too!

Hmm, those sound good – and we have everything to make them in the house (home brewing husband!), and my output has taken a hit due to my 4 day business trip and 8 days (and counting!) cold.

These look yummy! How many cookies did it make?
Lewis Labs Brewers Yeast (found at Whole Foods) doesn’t taste bad – I’ve put it on ice cream before!

Those sound great! Do you know if they could be frozen?

Has anyone made these without the flax or substituted anything in its place? I know flax helps with lactation, but it has also been part of the culprit of causing my breastmilk to turn soapy tasting.
