Since our two kiddos have birthdays that are only 2 weeks apart, we plan to organize joint parties for them, at least for the next few years. This year Little Lion has really enjoyed the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and I thought that seemed like a perfect theme for a birthday party! We have rented a local playground and shelter, and will probably keep the party pretty simple, inviting only close family and friends. But I thought it would be fun to include a round up of all of my favorite party inspiration. I would love to include as many of these elements as I can!

I love the gorgeous art and the food display! More from this party here. We probably won’t include all of the foods from the book, but I love the way they included even the strange ones from the story!

I am planning to make and decorate the cupcakes myself! I love this tutorial for a giant Caterpillar cupcake cake!

I do still want the birthday boy and girl to have their own special cake, so I plan on also making a mini version of this one for each of them! Tutorial for making the fondant caterpillar is here! I will probably use this fondant recipe, as I have heard the homemade kind is much more tasty!

We will probably only include minimal decorations since the party will be outside at the playground, but I will have to include a couple of these cuties! More from this party here.

Since the majority of the kids who are coming will be toddlers, we are going to let the playground be most of the entertainment! I am planning to bring all of our tricycles and ride-on toys for the paved area, and will have a “Make Your Own Antennas” station set up, with different colored headbands and pipe cleaners. These will also serve as favors, since I like to stick with things that are more practical and add to the party itself.

Hopefully their party will be the perfect mix of “easy but intentional.” We are so excited to celebrate with our family and friends! These kids are getting big way too fast!
