It’s been a few years since I’ve needed to carry a diaper bag, which is both wonderful and sad all at the same time. I still end up schlepping around a ton of gear, but it’s not baby specific so a diaper bag just seems over the top or out of place. A regular bag is great, but they miss all the best parts of, a diaper bag. And by best parts I mean all those content specific pockets and little tuck aways. Sure I don’t need a diaper pocket, or a changing pad, but the insulated lunch pocket, bottle holder (for water bottle) and all those extra little pockets would do wonders for staying packed and ready to go with any age kids.

There is no such thing as a “grade schooler” or “kiddo bag” on the market, so I figure the next best thing would be a snazzy “diaper backpack,” a bag that let’s you have two free hands and looks nothing like an actual diaper bag but has alll the power of a diaper bag. A diaper backpack is really such a great idea and something I WISH was around when I used/needed an actual diaper bag. Since I don’t need a diaper bag, but a lot of you do and maybe some of you are just like me (and want a diaper-esque bag that packs a lunch), I searched around and found the 15 best diaper backpacks. These bags range in prices, style and functionality — personally I think any of these 15 could easily make the best diaper bag/toddler bag/preschooler/gradeschooler/kiddo bag combo (the perfect all stage/year bag).

When I was searching I realized there were 5 key things that needed to be included in a backpack to make it the perfect diaper/kiddo combo bag to grow up into:

1. nice padded straps – since diaper bags can get pretty heavy once you pack them with your little ones gear, save your shoulders and make sure the straps are comfy.

2. ample pockets – for tons of gear, not just baby gear.

3. straps to attach or hang from stroller – since you aren’t going to want to wear it all the time.

4. must not look like a diaper bag – key!

5. durable fabric – since you’ll plan to have/use it for years to come!
