Drake will be seven later this year and we will probably look to switching him out of his convertible car seat shortly after that. I have kept Drake in his five point harness car seat for this long since he is on the smaller size for his age, and it made me feel safer especially with him sitting in the middle seat position of my Mazda. Fiona is still currently in her infant car seat but we will be switching her to a convertible soon, so once again I’m going to have to figure out what configurations will work best in my back row. When looking at booster seats for Drake I have a small wish list:

  • I would prefer a high back seat that can optimally convert to a backless one as Drake grows older and doesn’t need the support.
  • I think I would prefer a latch system to hold the booster in place rather than have it only anchored down when Drake is buckled. Since Drake is at school longer than his sisters, I don’t want his car seat loose and moving around if I am only going out with his sisters.
  • I would prefer to stay under $100 and realistically close to the $50-$70 range.
  • Obviously, the more comfortable seat I can get for the amount I want to spend would be ideal.

I have narrowed it down to these potential choices:

All of these seem to fit my criteria though ideally Drake could test them all out and let me know comfort wise which he would prefer the most. Since Drake is still small and I don’t anticipate him growing dramatically in the next six months, switching him isn’t a huge priority so I can wait for a good price or see what else new might come along.
