Charlie was first introduced to the iPad when he was around 6 months old. We accidentally cracked the screen on that iPad, and it cost as much to repair it as it did to replace it. Charlie is usually very good about handling the iPad, but you can never be too safe! Here is our roundup of the best childproof iPad 2 cases!
1) Big Grips; 2) Griffin Survivor; 3) Gumdrop Tech Series; 4) Trident Kraken II Hybrid Case 5) Otterbox iPad2 Defender
Initially I purchased a beautiful Dodo iPad 2 case. But it got a little wet and completely warped so I had to throw it away. I knew I needed something way sturdier, so I purchased a Gumdrop Tech Series case. There is a protective plastic screen that doesn’t affect sensitivity of the touch functions at all, and the silicone case provides great protection. Yesterday Charlie just threw the ipad on the ground! Thank goodness we had a case on it, because it was perfectly fine. All of these cases are also available for the first iPad.
Do you have an iPad case that you love?

We got this case. It’s not baby proof, but we don’t have to worry about our LO handling the ipad2 just yet.

Ya, come to think of it, we need an ipad baby proof case. Right now we have squat. That only means an accident is bound to happen.

@petitemommy – i’ve seen that one and it looks super cute! i left it out because reviews say it’s a hassle when viewing sites that are portrait only. having it be able to stand is a cool feature for viewing movies, but kids like to touch!

We have a cover but I don’t know what it is and it covers the screen when not in use and the whole thing is padded. I also restrict my son to only use it in the family room where there is carpet. Although, he has dropped it while running with it to show me something in the kitchen. Ooops… Our kids are so spoiled these days, huh?! Growing up, I had my brother’s firetruck to play with and not much else. And here, my son has rooms and rooms full of toys. Ridiculous….

We’ve now tried the GumDrop, Otterbox (newer model), and Griffin Survivor (I think an older model, but ordered new from Amazon so it is very relevant).
GumDrop lets moisture in from my special needs child’s drooly fingers. But other than that it is pretty good. THe moisture is a problem because it means we have to take everything apart. Often. Otterbox lasted about 36 hours before she managed to tear a chunk out of the case and warp another section of the silicone. Not impressed. Griffin lasted 2 uses before she ripped off the power port cover. She didn’t mean to and was very upset about them. We returned both Otterbox and Griffin as defective because if the case can’t even protect itself vs. a not-very-strong 7 year old, it is not likely to protect anything else, especially from the moisture we really need to stop getting in. But falls are also an issue, so for now I continue disassembling the GumDrop multiple times per day to clean it, because she can’t rip the thick rubber and it does, in fact, protect the device very, very well from falls.
