If you’re anything like me, you spent hundreds of hours researching the best baby gear to put on your registry. I read Baby Bargains, blog posts, thousands of reviews on Amazon, Babies ‘r Us, Buy Buy Baby, and Diapers.com, and I went to register with a seasoned mom friend. I had the same questions most moms to bee probably have — what is absolutely essential? What is a waste of money? How many of x do I need? And which stroller should I buy?!
A recent boards thread on feeling overwhelmed about registering got me to thinking about a new feature. I think it’d be really interesting to peek at real baby registries in their entirety. Readers would send in links to their registries, and we’d turn it into a post complete with links to products. And to put the registries in context, we’d also ask information about city, home size, and lifestyle.
I’m not sure how compelling the feature would be on an ongoing basis since a lot of the same popular products can be found on most registries, but perhaps a section of Hellobee with real registries reflecting different lifestyles would be a great reference for anyone starting or fine tuning their registry.
If you’d like to submit your registry, please provide the following details to submissions@hellobee.com

Sounds good. Maybe to avoid redundancies, you can have different themes i.e. “the urban baby”, “the brainiac”, “the minimalist”, “girlie-girl”, “future foodie”, etc.

sounds good, but i’m not sure how you’d post registries without giving full names.

@tequiero21: we wouldn’t link to the registry — we would repost the items on the registry on hellobee.

What a great idea! I love that amazon has a feature where you can look at registeries of other people that have similar items to you. So this is such a good idea!

That is a great idea, and I wish this feature was available when I was pregnant. I was so overwhelmed with registering for gifts, and I could only digest a few tips and bits of advice. I regret a few of the choices we made and wish I could have seem what real moms were registering for. It would have given me a better idea of what I may or may not have needed.

Oh what a clever idea! I’d love to submit mine, but I’m in the midst of just starting to get gifts from it (due in March, showers this weekend and next month). Would it be best to wait until I know which products I like and/or what I wind up receiving before I submit?

Bee what about also compiling these lists for the “best of” posts that some mommy bloggers do, where they take the items that they actually used and liked? I have one, and I know a lot of other mommy bloggers do as well.

@Squishy622: i think being able to review products will be one of the the most helpful aspects for readers, so wait to submit?

@jenna – that is actually a feature we had planned for awhile (featuring mom bloggers). would you like to participate?
the registry one is a little different so you can see everything in one place.

this is genius. i have a good friend who is 5 months preggo with her first, and she seems to be relying solely on myself (her only friend with a baby) to create her registry. i’m happy to blather on about my fave baby stuff, but i also realize that a registry is as unique as your parenting style; what one parent can’t live without, another might deem to be overkill. i keep encouraging her to talk to other moms to get suggestions beyond what i have to offer, but she doesn’t know many, and gets overwhelmed easily. so what i’m saying is, YES PLEASE TO THIS IDEA! love it.

I love this feature! I loved looking at people’s wedding registries when I was planning our wedding…. now I am starting to look through people’s baby registries, too, although figure out which stroller, car seat, etc. is right for us seems so much more daunting!
I love the idea you and @Jenna were discussing above of having a “Best Of” list. For beauty products and makeup, I always look to In Style’s Best Beauty Buys list, and have in that way discovered many products that I now cannot live without! It would be nice to have a list that sets out the best of baby gear in a similar way.
