Recently Charlie has had some ezcema on his arms and legs, and he’s been waking up early because he’s so itchy. I had a feeling that his wool Merino Kids Sleep Sack might be the culprit, and it looks like wool is definitely a trigger. Too bad because he loves that sleep sack!
His eczema isn’t surprising since I’ve had it for most of my life, and it tends to be hereditary. Luckily we’ve been able to treat it by bathing him in cooler water and using Baby Naturals Eczema Cream and Cortizone 10 Intensive Healing Ezcema Lotion. Charlie calls it his “special cream” and loves putting it on. We also have to keep pants on him at all times, otherwise he becomes a scratching machine.
These are some tips to prevent and treat eczema with at home remedies and over the counter products:

My LO had mild eczema up until she was 8-months of age, and then it suddenly disappeared as quickly as it came. During that time, I researched a lot and my favorite creams to use on her were CeRave and Vanicream. There are a ton of eczema boards on BabyCenter too that provide a wealth of info. California Baby (with the Calendula) is great too. I heard bad/mixed reviews about the Aveeno products.
Poor Charlie – I know eczema is not fun!!

LO has eczema – we use Spectro Kidz eczema cream, Aquaphor, Eucerin, and California Baby Calendula Cream (sent over from @Yin since it’s unavailable in Canada). Her skin still feels a tad dry but not red, bumpy, or painful-looking.

Oh we also switched our detergent. We were using Dreft, but people say that’s a horrible detergent to use (Tide Free is better) because it has added scents. Anything with scent is not good for eczema, so avoid wearing any perfumes or smelly lotions if you can.
We switched to Charlie’s Soap detergent and love it! You can get it on Amazon. I’m also a huge fan of EcoNuts. I discovered them on all those daily deal sites.

We do everything that you listed. The biggest one though is to avoid things that exacerbate the eczema (tart fruits).

LOTS of Aquaphor, especially immediately right after a bath/shower helped a lot. And then continual application on his face throughout the day. Also, my son’s allergist recommended using Aquanil instead of water to wipe around his mouth after he eats b/c water is more drying. I used it religiously and noticed it helped a lot. Thankfully, he outgrew his dairy and soy protein allergies at 15 months (started around 8 weeks). Oatmeal baths didn’t help at all and actually made it worse for him even if he wasn’t allergic to oatmeal. Weird. And we use California Baby’s Super Sensitive shampoo/body wash. We did use Aquaphor’s Gentle Wash and Shampooand it helped too. But I like that California Baby has a pump so we use that exclusively now on my son. He takes showers now and I love it!

My LO just had some signs of it on her cheek, but we put lotion on it and it cleared up in a few days. Thanks for the post… it’ll help a lot if it comes back!

Baby Y has had some. We switched to bathing him only every other day, and I’m putting Aveeno on him every day. We also use a humidifier. Seems to be helping.

My Melody has mild eczema especially if the weather is dry and I swear by Baby Aveeno Eczema cream. I just slather it very generously on her post bath.
