A year or so ago I started to become obsessed with looking at inspiration pictures of nurseries. And of course, I happened across the Oeuf Sparrow in grey. We’re most definitely grey people (every wall in our condo was grey, and we have now painted 90% of our house the same), and so it would only make sense that we would one day buy a grey crib.
But the $700-ish price tag seemed like a lot. I know you can spend way more on a crib, but you can also spend way less. I (sadly) crossed the Sparrow off my “future baby purchases” list and moved on.

A minimal, more modern white crib seemed like a better option for us, since we’d have more options to consider at our price point. So I started looking at anything under $500.
I found the Babyletto Mercer, which seemed like a good fit for us. It’s not oversized and just under $400. Reviews overall seemed good. But the two-tone just isn’t our style.

Babyletto also makes the Mercer with a drawer at the bottom. It is also around $400 and the reviews are good. The drawer would give us some extra storage, which is much needed. However, until recently I could only find it in the two-tone combo. Finally there’s an all-white option!

So, I thought this is the direction we’d end up going towards. Affordable, good reviews, minimal, white.
And then, my crib finding world was rocked when I found the Baby Mod Modena in grey! Modern, minimal, grey and $200! And fabulous reviews!
{source}
Sold exclusively at Wal-Mart (which, to be honest, is not my favorite store), I was skeptical but ended up being impressed the more I read about it. Great reviews – both on the site by parents and on a variety of blogs. I love the look of it and the price can’t be beat. We’d finally found our crib! I was so excited to order it.
And then, we painted the nursery. Grey. And with such a small space, adding a big grey piece of furniture would be totally overwhelming. Not to mention the fact that it would be highly unlikely that the two shades of grey would match, and I’d have no way of knowing how they looked together until the crib arrived. Humph.
Sadly, I had to walk away from my perfectly designed and perfectly affordable grey crib that I thought I just had to have. But that didn’t mean I had to walk away from the Modena completely. It also comes in navy, brown and…white!
So last Friday I ordered the Modena in white (and, as I had just signed up for Ebates, I earned $9.95 off of the purchase!). It shipped so quickly that it arrived on Monday and Mr. Hopscotch put it together that night!
The crib search for our little Peanut is done and done and our nursery is slowly started to come together!
Where did you purchase your crib?

i haven’t purchased my crib yet. but i’m looking at the sorelle sophia convertible. unfortunately, i’m not sure what color i should get – espresso or white. we’re going to be moving within the next 6 mos or so, so i have no idea what our nursery will look like. if we do anything at all with it (i’m not much of a stylist)…

Love your modena crib. I would have totally bought that (in brown) if I had seen it before buying ours

Such a pretty and unique crib! We were boring, just went to Babies R Us. I just wanted something affordable, and researching cribs stressed me out so we just took the easy way out.

We have the BabyMod Olivia, so ours is from Walmart, too! Not my favorite store either, but it was slim pickings for cribs with clean lines that weren’t $$$. And we’re very happy with it — the thing is solid!

I did order the Oeuf Sparrow in Walnut. I just couldn’t get past how much I loved it, even after looking at most of the cribs you mentioned. Luckily, we have no other furniture to order for the nursery since we’re using things we already have, so I don’t feel too bad about it. And I think it’s gender neutral enough for any future children.

Super cute! I def like what you went with!
You know Baby Mod which is only at Walmart (also not my fav place) is the same thing as Million Dollar Baby cribs. Its just MDB cribs sold at Walmart under different name.

@Rescuemom10: That’s one of the reasons I went for it!

I love modern cribs! (…and modern furniture in general.) Our crib is our one nursery splurge, and we’re going with one of the Oeuf cribs. I’m really concerned about having a crib that is actually made out of solid wood instead of particle board, and unfortunately that tends to come with a hefty price tag.

Love the crib! Great price too! We didn’t buy a crib. LO sleeps on a mattress on the floor.

That is one cute crib! The grey is gorgeous, but the white one looks lovely in your space.
We’re still a ways off from buying a crib, but we have actually been hearing/reading great reviews about the cribs at Ikea. Right now, the Ikea Gulliver is our top choice, but that Modena is tugging at my heartstrings!

I love your crib. It’s such a great price for a modern piece.

We got our crib set from a “local” gigantic baby store (not BRUs) but it’s in MD (we live in VA) just 40 minutes away so we didn’t have to pay for tax which was a nice bonus when you’re spending quite a bit of money.
Love the crib style that you got though. And what a great buy! We spent quite a bit on ours and I have to say the quality of the dresser (which we had returned once and should have returned twice for another replacement) looked cheaply made for the price we paid for it. Reviews are so important and, unfortunately, it’s hard to read reviews for crib sets at a store. Can’t wait to see what Peanut’s room will look like!

Love the modern look of it!

I have my crib picked out from Amazon – a convertible crib in pine (matches a dresser we have) for under $300 – and I’m not yet pregnant. *le sigh* Over planning… ugh.

I got my (fixed side) crib at a local resale shop for $85. Not too shabby! It’s hard to find fixed side cribs though, a lot are still trying to sell drop-sides, even though it’s illegal

How do you like your crib? It’s one of my options and I’m wary of the quality of some of these cribs that I won’t be able to see and feel in person before ordering online.

Hey! I am also curious how you like this crib — we are eyeing this in either gray or white!

@Mrs. Stroller: & @hellobeeboston: We love it! It’s really sturdy and overall I think the quality is really good! I’d read reviews about some other brands arriving in terrible condition after ordering online. This arrived in perfect condition and was super east to put together.

Did you find a white dresser to match this crib? We have a baby mod crib, but so far no dresser to match:(

@Lauren: before buying the crib we’d already bought a dresser – it’s yellow! I love having a fun pop of color in the room. You can check our our completed nursery here –

What mattress did you buy for your crib?

Hi-
do you still recommend this crib? I am planning on making this purchase this week. Would love your feedback since it appears you had the same crib 2 years ago? Thank you!
