Awhile back, I shared our 25-week maternity photo shoot. We had so much fun doing that session, but we knew we also wanted to do one at our home so that we could include our dog Charlie (and show off a bigger baby bump!).

So right when I was 37 weeks pregnant – just a couple of weeks ago – our good friend and fabulous photographer Laurie came by our house for a session. I had my hair and makeup done beforehand, which was one of the best decisions ever! It was the extra little thing I needed to feel really great, especially as I feel like in so many photos lately I’ve looked just plain tired. The makeup helped immensely! (I also love any and every opportunity to wear fake eyelashes, they are my favorite!)

This was much more of a portrait session than our last one, and I love having so many great close up shots of Mr. H and me!

This is one of my favorites of myself! I’m always my own worst critic when it comes to photos of me, and I have to say that I think I look pretty fabulous here.

We’ve never had any pictures taken with Charlie, so it was fun to include him, although he was running around like crazy. It was difficult to get this shot! Fortunately Laurie is great at working with squirmy pups, as she has 3 of her own!

We also took a few pictures in Baby H’s nursery.

If you couldn’t tell, Charlie likes to steal the show!

Again, another great Charlie shot! Apparently we should have scheduled his own photo shoot.

And, finally, a big old bump shot! My oh my how the belly has grown!

We had so much fun during this session, and it was great to be relaxed and at home for it! We were fortunate enough to have two great sessions during this pregnancy, which isn’t always an option for everyone, but I do strongly urge everyone to try and do at least one session if possible. It’s such a great opportunity to capture such a special time!

Things to think about when preparing for a session:

  • Get your hair and makeup done if you can. A great confidence boost!
  • Plan out your outfit(s) in advance. I was never prepared and just grabbed clothes from my closet that I didn’t necessarily love.
  • Think about your location(s) and what you want to get from the session. If we were only going to do one session, I would have started at our house and did some shots outside afterwards so we could have a mix. Since we had two sessions, we got the outdoors in the first and indoors in the second, which was perfect.
  • Make sure you’re comfortable with your photographer! This, in turn, will help you be comfortable in front of the camera.
