Good weather is finally upon us, and my children want to be outside all day long! We love to blow bubbles, and we go through our bubble solution like crazy! Did you know that you can make your own homemade bubble solution and bubble blowers? The best part is, you probably already have all the ingredients and supplies in your home, and the bubbles come out big and beautiful!
You will need to gather up a few supplies.
- Liquid Dish Soap
- Light Corn Syrup
- Bottle or Container to store Bubble Solution
- 12 inch Pipe Cleaners (in any color you prefer)
To make the bubble solution, you will need:
- 2 1/2 cups hot water
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup liquid dish soap
Pour the bubble solution into a bottle or a container with a lid. Let the solution rest for a few hours before using it for the best results.
To make bubble blowers, line up some straws together and wrap around with tape. To make bubble wands, bend pipe cleaners around cookie cutters or various shapes, and wrap the extra wire around the stick portion to hold in place.
You can also pour the solution into individual jars for each child, and you will be good to go! Re-using jars, or plastic cups (such as yogurt cups with lids) works just great!
Now, grab your wands, blowers, and bubble solution and get outside! Be sure to enjoy the good weather with some good old fashion bubble blowing that your kids are sure to enjoy!

Awesome! So I just bought bubbles for part of the favors for lo’s birthday party… and didn’t realize a wand didn’t come with it. Now I’m making my own!
may I use something else ’cause in Italy we don’t have corn syrup?

oh i need to try this! thanks
i’m glad you like it! it is a fun activity!
LOTHO82 you can also try a few tablespoons of glycerin if you do not have corn syrup. that should also work!

Very very cool. Can’t wait to make this…. Love the huge bubble!
I made these and they didn’t seem to work that well. I used them to refill a wand and toy we already had and they would drip off the wand and didn’t work at all in the toy. They almost seemed too watery? Any suggestions on what went wrong?
this diy project reminds me of my childhood
Looking for advice. I just made this and it appears to be too “thin”. The solution is not viscous enough to stay on the wand. Any ideas? Used Kroger Light Syrup, and Palmolive Fresh dish soap.
this is great! thanks so much for sharing this
the bubbles work great- as for the wands, the pipe cleaners need to be the metallic kind- like in the pic- and not the colored chenille pipe cleaners. They don’t work. at.all.
How long can you keep this?
If you don’t have corn syrup you can use 1 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup water. Works just as well!
I’m sure going to have alot of fun with my grandson….!!!
You can also totally make your own corn syrup. I did that last Thanksgiving for pecan pie and when I read this now, though, “Hey! I bet I never threw out the rest of that!”
Haha…sure enough, it’s still there… had crystallized a bit like honey, but there was enough still viscous to make a small batch of this as a test. I did use the chenille pipe cleaners, as that’s all I had, and they seemed to work fine, I just had to blow a bit harder, it seemed. I guess the fuzz has more grab to it..? I also made another wand with just thin wire, several loops in the shape of a flower. That blew a little more easily. Going to let my kids play with them tomorrow (Memorial Day) and see what they prefer…then I’ll make more for an upcoming birthday. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
