We stocked up on white frames from Ikea before baby S was born, anticipating that we would want to frame cards and other little mementos from his first few weeks.  Now baby S has a lot of special artwork in his nursery given to him by friends, and this little elephant artwork that I made.

I made his elephant punch art when I was punching out dozens of little elephants to make thank you note cards during the last days of my pregnancy and had a baggie full of leftover navy pachyderms; it’s a quick and easy project that can be personalized to any nursery!

Materials

  • Animal shape punch – I used Martha Stewart’s elephant punch from AC Moore where they sell a gazillion different punches. The sand dollar would be adorable in a beachy theme nursery or the snowflake for a snowbunny nursery
  • Heavy card stock in color of your choice
  • White card stock
  • Glue dots
  • 10×10 Shadowbox frame – we used an Ikea Ribba frame

Cut the white card stock so it’s the size of your frame. If you’re using a mat then mark very lightly where the edges of the mat will fall.

Punch out 20 elephants from the colored card stock and fold their ears for a little dimension.

Arrange the elephant shapes on the white card stock. When you have a pattern that you like, attach each one with a glue dot.

Stick your artwork in the shadowbox frame and you’re done!

To personalize the artwork, you could leave one elephant off and use the empty space to write your baby’s name or birth date. Or put in one contrasting color elephant. If baby S were a girl I had planned to replace one blue elephant with a pink one.

Did you make any of the artwork in your baby’s nursery?
