I created a gallery wall in baby Stroller’s nursery before he was born. I bought several white frames at Ikea when we were buying our dresser, painted the mats navy blue, and filled them up with cards and mementos from friends.

Mr. S nearly killed me when I pulled out a quilting square, level, tape measure and calculator and proclaimed that all the frames had to be hung “just right.” But it only took a near break-down from a 36 week pregnant woman on frame number two for Mr. S to realize just how seriously I was taking “just right.” Trust me, I knew babies don’t care what their nursery looks like, but I anticipated spending hours in a single room staring at the same wall and I really appreciate precision.

Before baby S arrived, we framed a few of our favorite cards and stuck some placeholders in a few of the frames. At the top we have Maine, of course, and a momma (or poppa) and baby elephant.

Below Maine is a birthday card with an elephant on it that my parents sent me last year. We have the first card from baby S to daddy, thanking him for working on so many projects during the months before his arrival getting the house ready for him:

And a sweet little card from a friend that has a very special note inside congratulating us:

We also had several placeholder Feeneys:

One Feeney stayed because we’re pretty sure Feeney and baby S are going to be best friends, but it was relocated to the bookshelves when we received another cute card. The other two Feeneys were replaced with baby S’ birth announcement and our video monitor – an addition we originally anticipated would be on the bookshelves.

The large frame in the center had a piece of elephant fabric in it for the longest time. It was a placeholder for baby S’s custom name art that we ordered from Made By Girl once we actually knew baby S’s name. It just arrived last week and he loves it!

We’ll probably have to move a few frames when baby gets bigger and we bring in a crib, but for now, this is baby S’s view of his gallery wall:

Baby S loves talking to his balloons and looking at his gallery wall, much more than he loves naps!
