As a proud first time Auntie, I was very excited to throw my Sister-in-law, Jen, and her new baby girl a baby shower.  Around here, a baby shower is nearly always thrown after the baby is born.  I love it because it’s a fun way to introduce everyone in your life to your little one.  Jen requested a bee theme and I decided to go with yellow, white and grey.  I got yellow and white flowers, made yellow lanterns into bee hives and my cousin Barb made some awesome ruffly streamers and matching pom poms.

For added bee fun, I stitched some wings onto the back of a striped onesie for the baby, and made Jen a headband with yellow and grey fabric flowers and removable antennae.  I made the grandmothers matching fabric flower corsages (but don’t have an awesome photo).

We aimed for the food to match the colour scheme, which is easy to do with yellow!  I made vanilla cupcakes with lemon buttercream and bee sugar cookies.  Barb made earl grey macarons with lemon buttercream.  The grammas provided lemon squares, lemonade punch, tea, coffee, and cracker and veggie platters.  Happily we had some tasty leftovers.

I skipped the traditional shower games as they didn’t look super fun to me, and instead had a photo booth set up where people could get their photo taken with the baby (that’s Barb and her boys with their little cousin).  We then set up a scrapbooking station where people could write the baby a little letter and decorate a page for their photo to be placed on when I get them printed.  We’ll add a few photos from the event and a list of gifts to make a keepsake album.

The other little game we played was to set a timer for the gift opening and whenever it went off, the person whose gift was being opened won a prize (honey from our family farm, naturally).  This was pretty fun, but I underestimated how long it would take to open forty some presents (she’s a very popular girl!), and maybe should have found a speedier way to do the gifts as it took about an hour.

So now you see why I was too busy to post last week!  This was a ton of work but everyone had a lot of fun which makes it all worthwhile to me.

Have you ever thrown a baby shower for someone special in your life?
