I’m excited to share my rather magical journey to motherhood with you!

I picked Fairy Wings as my icon because my path to happily being a single mom has had some unanticipated twists and turns.  Luckily, a lot of good fairies have come along to help me figure out how to style the single mom thing and have fun along the way.  I picked Ms. Fairy Wings with the hope that sharing my story would, in some small way, help someone else appreciate her own journey that hasn’t turned out exactly as she expected.

My story is about a family.  When you hear the word “family,” we’re probably not what you envision.  We are just me and my nine month old baby, Baby T.  Or at least it was just us, until I decided to join forces with another single mom and her two kids, a six and a half year old girl (the half, as she keeps reminding me, is extremely important when you’re six going on seven) and a nine year old boy.

This other mom and I, we’ll call her Ms. Alas de Hadas (which is the Spanish translation for “fairy wings”), couldn’t be more different.  She’s a smoking hot Latina from Mexico and I’m a granola, outdoorsy California type.  Our plan is that Baby T and I will move into her downstairs area, and we will share the kitchen, chores, and some child care.

When I am not moving, I love spending time with my baby outdoors, exploring new places with him, and building a community for us in the sweet little mountain town where we’re lucky enough to live.  Before I was a mom, I was an avid whitewater kayaker, runner, road biker, and traveler.  Now I use most of my free time to catch up on much needed sleep.  I also work full time at a grassroots non-profit.

I will blog on Hellobee about how two moms, two kids and a baby live together and create a different kind of family.  I’ll blog about the ups and downs of being a single mom and the discoveries that come with the territory.  Please follow our  adventures and share any tips and advice you can add to make the journey smoother!
