Send your little one back to school this month with a fun school bus bento box! Even kids who are too young for the classroom will enjoy humming “The Wheels on the Bus” as they chow down on this special sandwich.
Here’s what you need to make this lunch:
Ingredients:
- sandwich with filling of your choice
- orange cheese
- fruit leather
- grapes
- sugar snap peas
Equipment
- a bento box
- small, sharp knife
- small arched cutter
- small letter cutters
Technique:
- Make a half sandwich and add it to your bento box.
- Using the tip of your knife, cut a simple school bus shape from a slice of cheese. Make it approximately the same size as your sandwich, or a little smaller.
- Use the small arch-shaped cutter to cut windows into the top of your cheese bus (or cut them out with your knife). Layer bus on top of the sandwich.
- Cut the letters to spell “SCHOOL” from the fruit leather and layer them on top of the bus. If you don’t have letter cutters, you can also use a food-safe marker to write the letters on the cheese.
- Add grapes and snap peas to the empty spaces in the box.
Are you planning to make a special lunch for your child’s first day of school?
