When I got pregnant, my first thought was YAY! WOOHOO! Quickly followed by my second thought which was, OHMYGOD I know nothing about pregnancy.
We are among the first in our group of friends to get pregnant, so I know approximately two people who have given birth in the last decade. While doctors, moms, aunts and grandmas are all incredibly helpful, sometimes you need an unbiased source of information to help you along on this journey.
For my pregnant mama friends out there (who might be in the same boat as I am!) here are a few resources that have helped me navigate this often weird, sometimes shocking but always amazing time.
I find the combination of these three apps provide me with the most up-to-date info about my changing body and my growing little nugget:
- What to Expect – Weekly and daily pregnancy tips, the ever-changing (and important) fruit updates!
- Sprout Lite – This app provides a picture of your growing baby and marks important milestones each week. Also gives weekly and daily tips and updates.
- Babycenter My Pregnancy Today – At the risk of being redundant, this app also provides daily tidbits of info and a countdown until your due date. Usually provides more information than the other two apps, especially about weekly development.
This list could be a lot longer, but here are the sites I find myself perusing the most:
- Fit Pregnancy – This website is great for finding recipes, workout tips, baby names, and pretty much anything else you might be looking for. As someone who is looking to stay as fit as possible throughout pregnancy, I like the tone and angle of many articles I’ve found.
- Babycenter – I like Babycenter best for searching random questions you have during pregnancy, for example, how to combat heartburn or what Braxton Hicks feel like. I have yet to pose a question that wasn’t answered here.
- The Bump – This site is great for the complete pregnancy checklist and for perusing the community boards (which can get a bit crazy but it can be helpful to know that other first time moms are in the same boat!)
I hope this has been helpful for new mamas out there. What are your favorite websites and apps related to pregnancy?

hahaha! joking aside, it totally is. I come here first with a question before any other website.
I LOVED the WTE baby app for when he was a newborn because it tracked his feedings, sleep and diapers!

I am pregnant with baby #2. I found sprout lite’s contraction timer to be SUPER helpful. It was great to have while I was at home and it does all the calculating for you. How long, how far apart, etc.

I haven’t downloaded any apps or visit any other website besides this and WB really.
I am trying just to take things as they come and not be too obsessed with the pregnancy. I also haven’t read any books. I don’t know, I just don’t want to treat my pregnancy like it was a project, I just want to take things as they come and enjoy it.
I figure actually giving birthing and looking after a baby are the big things.
Lastly, if I am honest, I had lots of complications in the 1st trimester and I never felt confident to download apps or get weekly emails. I was scared if I lost the pregnancy, id have to unsubscribe from them and it would have really hurt.

@sea_bass: Me too! (On the not downloading any apps or signing up for updates). I think once I see the heartbeat or get to 12 weeks I’ll feel more comfortable but for now, I would rather play it safe. I do go to the sites for updates, though, just don’t get any automatic updates.
