Charming, right?  It’s been a busy month for the Super family!  So busy in fact, that this is a week late.

Wonder Baby is 10 months old!  She’s so mobile.  She quickly went from pulling up to cruising and has been getting better and better at it.  She can make her way quickly around the room holding onto the furniture, and can play with toys on the couch or table by just balancing against them, not even holding on.  She is pushing little chairs around “walking on her knees” and I can tell that she’ll be walking with the chair any day now.  She also likes to pull up on pant legs, stranding me in the middle of the kitchen until she gets bored and moves on, or I get bored and untangle myself.  It’s crazy to think that Toddler Girl wasn’t even crawling at this age!  She’s quite the little problem solver too, and can reach the tops of our end tables and the edges of the kitchen table.  I’m running out of safe places to put things.

Wonder Baby’s talking has shifted this month from lots of “bababa” to full on babble.  It’s like she speaks her own language.  I’m not sure what “teeko teeko” means, but I’m sure it’s something like “I love you.”  She has seven teeth now and is putting them to good work eating lots of yummy food.  Fish and fruit are her favourites right now.  Thankfully she’s stopped using those little teeth on me; the last two teeth popped in with almost no biting.  November was still a pretty rough month for sleep as she had a solid 2 month sleep regression, but she seems to be doing better this week.  Still waking up every 3 hours, but that’s pretty standard for her.  I’m planning to night wean at a year, which is not that far off now.  She still takes her morning nap in the ergo, and her afternoon nap and nighttime are in her crib in our room.

She’s a very happy baby and fairly easy to amuse as long as she’s not overtired or hungry.  We did swimming lessons with the girls over October and November and she had a ton of fun.  She is completely unfazed by going underwater and seems amused by the games and songs.  Oh, and this is just past the 10 month mark but she learned to wave buh-bye this week!  So adorable.  I can’t believe she’s getting old enough to communicate.  I might try baby sign language with her.  I failed with TG but that might have had more to do with her personality.  We’ll see.

Toddler Girl is 33.5 months old now.  Her speech patterns continue to improve, and I’d say that she speaks in fairly full sentences with proper grammar most of the time these days.  She loves singing and can sing a few songs (Twinkle Twinkle, I’m a little Teapot, Away in a Manger) with fairly good accuracy.  She is very excited to play outside whenever it snows.  We made a really big effort to get her outside every day that it wasn’t raining this month, and I think her sleep and general disposition was significantly improved.  She loved her swimming lessons, and I had so much fun playing with her.  I was a swimming instructor for 10 years so it’s really neat watching my own kids start to gain confidence in the water.  She’ll start preschool swimming lessons (so unparented) in the spring, and I think she’ll be ready.

TG alternates between being very independent (“I dress myself now!”) to requiring a ridiculous amount of assistance (she finishes most meals on my or Mr SH’s lap being fed).  It gets a bit annoying when I know full well that she can do something (put on her socks) but she begs for help.  I try and remind myself that she’ll be all grown up before I can blink, so I might as well soak it up now.  She’s still getting some timeouts for doing things like sitting on her sister (!) but in general she’s such a good kid.  And she isn’t generally being purposefully mean, she just forgets that Wonder Baby is… a baby.

As you can tell, Wonder Baby would drive the most patient older sister to violence every now and then.  I’ve heard TG crying occasionally and gone in to find that Wonder Baby used her hair to pull to standing.

Speaking of which, the baby is crying, apparently happy time playing with blocks has come to an end!  Time to go make lunch!
