Throughout pregnancy, I was never officially sold on the idea of maternity photos. I love to see other women embracing their growing shapes by capturing this special time, but I’m typically not as comfortable in front of the camera as I am behind it.

But I was faced with a small dilemma… every year I send a holiday card to our family and friends that typically includes a photo. I love to look back at what we’ve sent and see how our lives (and sometimes our faces!) have changed over the years.  I toyed with the idea of just sending a card with a photo of our pup, but after a bit of crowd-sourcing, I decided that a few family photos of us may not be a bad idea – before we officially add another to the mix!

A good friend of ours, Jordan Herron, took these photos for us on a warm day in November when I was just about 28 weeks pregnant.

I was nervous about “looking huge” in the photos, but now looking through them, I’m so happy that we did this. If you’re on the fence about having a few nice pictures taken during pregnancy – just do it! Even if you never show them to anyone, you can always look back and remember how you were feeling during this unforgettable time.

And here’s our annual family card – since we’re only 11 days into January, I figured it’s not to late to wish you all a very happy 2013!

What are your thoughts on maternity photos? If you had them taken, were you happy you did it?
