A while ago I blogged about my “Mom’s One Line a Day” journal where I write down a little bit about each day with Little M. I started the day that I went into labor and have written every night since (ok so I may have written about those three days of labor on the day M was born and not as they happened.) The journal is a five year journal and each page is for one day and has five blocks, one for each year. So as you write in years 2-5 you can look back and see what you wrote one year ago today.

Since Little M hit the one year mark last month, writing in the journal is getting a lot more interesting every night. And kind of sad since it really highlights just how quickly Little M is changing. I thought I’d share a few of my entries from the past month as a one year old and on the same day last year when Little M was a newborn.

December 15, 2011
Full day in the hospital. Had shots, got circumcision, slept for 6 hours afterward. Mamie visited in the morning. Night is rough as M is hungry from sleeping so long.

December 15, 2012
V&E (friends aged 2 & 5) came over in the AM. They ransacked M’s toys & shared cupcakes. Yummy! 30min nap then up and at ’em. Walked to horses then had lunch with Mamie while mummy ran. Went to E’s house (friend aged 20m). Played w/ kitchen set & vacuum & broom. Walked to see Santa! M had huge smiles! So cute. Nap in car then wild bath before crashing. Wore red cord lined romper. Bottom L tooth cut through.

December 17, 2011
First full day home is a success. We tidied up an in the afternoon played ball in the yard with Feeney.

December 17, 2012
M was sick today. Slept til almost 9 then woke and only wanted soup and oranges. Had a fever all day. Napped for almost 3 hours. Went out in the snow in his sled from Mamie. All bundled up – he liked it. Played w/slide in kitchen a little. Loved Christmas music @ the piano w/Mamie. Wore lined jeans & Navy sweatshirt.

M met S’s whole family at brunch. Mummy got sick and went to the ER. M & daddy had to spend the entire night alone while mummy sent milk home from the hospital with Mamie.

Mummy is sick on Xmas eve again this year. Ugh! Took long naps, ate ham & scalloped potatoes, but just a little for bfast then an entire banana. Took ornaments off the tree & tried to put them on. Went all the way down the stairs, went for a walk with Mamie. To xmas service. M v. good. Liked candle the most. Ate lots of puffs. Santa came in evening.

Happy New Year! M watched the ball drop with daddy while mom slept. Today we went through several outfits, a first. We took a walk in the bassinet in the stroller for the first time. Maddox slept ’til the end…almost!

January 1, 2013
Happy 2013! M went to sleep a full 7 hours earlier than last year! We had cooked cereal for bfast w/ banana + and egg + cheese. Put the little people on the bus + shapes in sorter. Stood in kitchen tower while mummy cooked + cleaned. Saw family in afternoon. M wore his Xmas outfit.

Went to [the mall] today after morning feeding. M was great and slept while mummy tried on clothes. We fed at Starbucks – first public nursing. It went ok. Got new whale hat @ carters. Went out to dinner with S’s parents.

Milkies in bed then down to the tower. M had a clementine while I made his breakfast. He doesn’t like to get into the car lately. Went to [daycare] with his first pretty bento today! Yummy! Happy to see mummy – did drive-by milkies then after bath reached for his paci after nursing only a little! Wore red pants & elephant stripe top.

Had another good night and got to sleep in together. We went for a walk with Mamie and Feeney in the Ergo. M has a diaper rash so we gave him baking soda bath soak tonight. He cried the entire time.

Another early morning, goodbye 8am! Up @ 7:15 nice milkies in bed. Ham for bfast today. Played in his tower for a while, helped mummy take off the Xmas tree ornaments & climbed the chair to look outside. Made SPS (split pea soup), took a v. short nap then went to Nola’s for a little visit. Gets upset when the gate to the basement is closed now. Obsessed with mummy lately.

January 12, 2012
M slept for 9 hours and mummy got mastitis. We dropped Mamie at the airport and then went straight to the doctor. M napped well for mummy & dad got home around 5. Blue bucket bath & Feeney drank the water again! M smiled at mummy.

January 12, 2013
Up just after 7. I think 8am is a thing of the past, unfortunately. Helped do laundry & in his tower made cookies w/ mummy. Yummy! Didn’t get sick from cookies w/ regular flour! Up for a long time before nap then took a 2 hour nap. Didn’t fall asleep nursing, but did to back rubs. Excited for his toys in the rotation.

It’s crazy how I can read just a few sentences from a day last year and remember it so well. Even though it’s a little bittersweet to read last year’s entry each night, I’m so glad I’m keeping my daily journal.  Have you kept any kind of journal that you’ve looked back as your baby grows?
