At the beginning of the month I blogged about how my New Year’s Resolution was to invest a little more time into taking care of myself because I spend every waking (and many sleeping) moment caring for a baby. I haven’t prioritized myself as I should, down to not even showering more than twice a week. I also vowed to get dressed every day, even if that meant just clean sweatpants, I had to get out of what I slept in! In conjunction with that I was motivating myself by taking a photo of my mommy style whenever I could… more like whenever Mr. Pen was able to!
Even though the month isn’t quite over yet, I achieved my goal of 12 photos for this month, and this post is one I’ve been looking forward to and waiting to put together all month! I am so proud of myself in regards to this month. I kept a journal on my iPhone and wrote about each day how getting dressed and showering impacted my motivation and activity level. It truly helped me feel alive and able to get things done! I am so happy with myself this month, and it was fun picking out outfits each day and having my husband photograph me; we had a lot of fun with it. Without further ado: Mrs. Pen’s January Mommy Style.

In my original post, I also made a goal to do one thing for myself this month, and my goal this month was to get a much-needed hair cut and color. I haven’t had my hair cut or colored since Cobi was 3 months old! I had many split ends. I decided to something a little more dramatic and I am in love with it, as is my amazing stylist Emily!
I had so much fun with this task that I am considering doing mommy style posts for next month too! I suppose whether I do or not all depends on how much feedback I get for this post. Let me know if you would love to see some more! I love the challenge and motivation it gives me.
Are you able to take care of yourself while caring for little one(s)?

Holy smokes. I don’t even have a little one and I look like a slovenly beast in comparison. I better up my game or lord knows what I will look like once baby arrives!!

You look totally adorable, and your cut/color look great! In fact, I don’t think I have seen anyone look cuter in a furry hat!
I would love to see more mommy style posts.

@MsLipGloss: it’s been SO cold here that to go out to take a picture without a hat or gloves would have given me frostbite (slight exaggeration). Subzero temps! It’s freezing. That hat is my saving grace. I’m glad it looks cute too
functionality and style!!

I LOVE this post! (really I
all of your posts). Your outfits are too cute & just affirm that I DEFINITELY need to get some shopping in for myself! (fyi: I STILL haven't gotten myself jeans & have the money in my wallet). Love the hair too! Hope you do more of these, I could sure use the style help!

I would love to see how you use basic staples (like the striped dress) to make multiple outfits! I am horrible at just throwing on pants and a shirt and call it an “outfit”.

CUTE!

You look so happy in these pictures you’ve motivated me to do the same! If a simple outfit change can turn around my sometimes grumpy disposition, I’m all for it!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Thehistoryofus: GREAT idea!!! I actually have so many outfits with the striped dress- that’s a perfect piece to do it with. I’ll work on that
@Katm558: thanks! I hope it works well for you
@runsyellowlites: part of my challenge is resurrecting and creatively styling the clothes I already have in my closet too. I will admit the mint jeans are new and I LOVE them.

What a cute post! Your haircut looks so great! Makes me want to chop my hair off! I’ve been working on growing it out for over a year but your short wavy do is really, really cute!

Is there any way we can get you to do this every month?! I love your taste! (and hair!)
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@limyboo: thank you! It was a dramatic move- I’ve had long hair for over 3 years and hate it last time I chopped my hair. But I love this style!
@Mrs. Blue: hehe that’s my favorite too
@MrsTiz: I love the idea of turning this into a series, “a year of style” but at this point I will take it a month at a time and see how it goes. I’d love that though! Thanks

Love your outfits especially the ruffle tops and mint green pants! This makes me want to go shopping for some new clothes but maybe after I lose this baby weight : ( You look great!

@Sammyfab: between you and me I think he liked the off the shoulder action more than the adorable socks
but I totally agree with you! Love my cozy socks!
@tororojo: ugh don’t be! The pics that were inside are because it was way too cold to venture outside even for a picture that takes less than a minute!!!
@scsgalexander: I definitely want to feature those mint pants more if I do this next month too! The trick is that I don’t want to recycle the same outfits… And what you see above are usually my go-to outfits so it will take some creative thinking to create a few new ensembles

Yay! I love this post and all your OOTDs! Mom style or not – you look and dress really cute! I think it’s a good resolution and goal to dress up just for yourself – I’m a big believer that it really makes a difference in how you feel! Keep it up hot mama!

You. Are. Adorable! And I seriously love your new cut on you!
This post was really inspiring to me. Coming off a month of illness in this house, I think I might get dressed in something *nice* today. Thanks for sharing!

I looove this post! I need you to come style me pronto! What are the ponte pants you keep talking about? They seem really great. I want a ton of your tops and sweaters, too. I super love your new hair do also! I seriously just love it all!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Boogs: totally made me smile!
Okay seriously my ponte pants are incredible. Best pants ever. I have a pair in grey and black, they are expensive, $100 a pair, but I wait until Black Friday every year to buy a new pair when they’re 50% off. They are really soft, slimming and comfortable. They are straight leg, but tuck into boots easily. They can be worn as a dress pant by dressing up with heels and a blazer or casually like I wear them with boots and a sweater.
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
@Mrs. Pen:
I need to find those pants and see how they would look on me. I would definitely wait for a sale too. Maybe I’ll get lucky and can have mint pants at the same time, I super love them!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Boogs: I got mine at the Ann Taylor Factory – it’s an outlet. But they sell them at the regular Ann Taylor store too! Although for Black Friday, the factory had 50% off and the regular AT store was 40%.
Okay here are the gray ones – but they’re sold out: http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/product/AT-Apparel/AT-Pants/Knit-Slim-Pants/289080?colorExplode=false&skuId=12130702&catid=cata000014&productPageType=fullPriceProducts&defaultColor=6229
They have them in black too: http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/product/AT-Lookbook/AT-Work-To-Weekend/Modern-Knit-Slim-Pants/282392?colorExplode=false&skuId=11761365&catid=cata000014&productPageType=fullPriceProducts&defaultColor=6600
You should see if you have an AT factory near you! Also, the pants were a fall/winter item so it might take some waiting to get them too
And the mint jeans were from Loft online! They are really comfortable too and feel kinda like a legging
I got those 50% off by waiting for a sale too
I never buy anything full price haha
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
@Mrs. Pen: Neither do I, I’m so cheap lol! I have one about 30 minutes away. I’m hoping I can sneak away there maybe the end of this week.

@Mrs. Pen: Are the mint pants the sea glass color? http://www.loft.com/loft/product/LOFT-Petite/LOFT-Petite-New-Arrivals/Petite-Color-Pop-Super-Skinny-Jeans/297385?colorExplode=false&skuId=12877089&catid=catl000038&productPageType=fullPriceProducts&defaultColor=5577#
