Wow, what a pleasure the seventh month turned out to be!

Scribble was so adaptable and content this month!  We started our seventh month with a trip to the beach, and he did beautifully. We endured two seven hour car trips in the space of a week and he didn’t cry during either leg of either trip! He simply slept in the morning and cat-napped and played with his toys after a pit stop for lunch and a diaper change.  It was astounding! He was content to nap on the beach or in the carrier, was curious and easygoing at restaurants and while shopping, and was happy to be held by our friends and family. On more than one occasion he totally shocked us with his willingness to remain placid and happy in the stroller while we enjoyed long lunches, late dinners out, and marathon outings.

Scribble progressed with his milestones a lot this month. He learned how to squeal, and says tons of consonants now. He still isn’t crawling, but he is scooting backward a little now. Although he still requires some assistance, he is sitting up independently for much longer stretches of time. He also likes to do this cute thing where he lunges at us and gives us “kisses” or bites our nose while we are playing. He is suddenly fascinated by toys and everyday objects. I can’t drink anything around him without him reaching for my glass.

He also started biting me while nursing! OUCH!

We started solids, and he is doing a great job of self-feeding. We were reluctant to try BLW at first, but he was very enthusiastic about feeding himself from the outset, so we quickly changed plans. It has made introducing solids so much less stressful and so much more fun for us! I was so proud to tell our pediatrician that Scribble was meeting the self-feeding milestone.

But here’s the most important thing: HE HAS STARTED SLEEPING THROUGH! Just when I thought sleep training was a complete failure, Scribble slept from 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM. It was a shock! Sleeping through is still intermittent, but just a few days of unbroken sleep has done a world of good for my mental and emotional state. He still takes at least two good naps a day as well.

Due to all the upheaval of vacation, sleeping through, and daylight savings time, we have gotten off schedule quite a bit. Scribble seems to want to nurse for comfort more than he used to, and since he is sleeping through, he nurses more during the day. Sometimes he still takes 3 naps, but usually he only takes two. I am hoping to get back to normal once he starts sleeping through more consistently and we see what the new schedule will be.

Month Seven has really been a dream. It has been so nice to have a little buddy with me on adventures and, at the moment, parenthood seems to hold limitless potential. But I know that challenges lie ahead, so I’m trying to enjoy this easy time while I can!

The drool really makes this pic, n’est-ce pas?
