Baby Markers is already two months old! And I must say each day is more fun than the last.

Stats

Baby M weighs over 11 lbs and measures 22.5 inches long. She is still wearing some newborn clothes, but is growing out of most of them in length. Between 7-8 weeks we pulled out her 0-3 month clothing, most of which is still a little big.

Eating

Still breastfeeding, still eating like a champ. She eats between 8-9 times a day, about every 2-3 hours. Usually we give her a bottle right before bed, around 3 oz. We’re breastfeeding on demand, and some days she’ll cluster feed every hour or so, usually either first thing in the morning or late in the evening. I’ve been trying to let her eat as much as possible during the day, and as a result we’ve had noticeable success in her sleeping habits at night.

At one month, I was worried about an oversupply. Now, I often wonder if she’s getting enough! I’m struggling to find a good time to pump because I want to make sure I can feed her when she’s hungry. Right now the best time has been late at night after she goes to sleep… if I can keep my eyes open long enough to do it!

Sleeping

Often, the first question people ask is, “how is she sleeping? does she sleep through the night yet?” And I usually whisper my answer because I don’t want other new moms to hear me and think I’m bragging… but the answer is YES! At 7 weeks she started sleeping 8pm-5am without waking up. We were on a 6-3-1 schedule for a while (going to bed at 8pm, feeding at 2am, 5am and 6am) and then she dropped one feed and started waking around 3am and then again around 5am. One night I decided to see what would happen if I just gave her a pacifier at 3am immediately when she woke up. To my surprise (and delight) she went right back to sleep and slept until 5am.  I did the same thing the next night, and then ever since she’s been sleeping from 8pm-5am almost every night.

Naps are another story… we haven’t quite figured out napping at home yet, but she’ll nap perfectly in the carseat, stroller or Ergo while we’re out and about. This is great for lunch dates, car rides and shopping trips, but not so great for getting anything done at home. She takes 3 naps a day on average, and this month I’m going to try to “nap train” so she gets used to taking them in her bassinet or pack n’ play.

Development

So many smiles!!! She flashed us her first social smile right around 7 weeks. Now we can usually count on smiles first thing every morning and anytime she has a full belly. She’s still a tummy time rockstar, and apart from a little wobbliness, she holds her head up so well.

Likes: being held upright, lights and movement, black and white pictures, bathtime, diaper changes, music, walks in the stroller and being outside

Dislikes: being held too tightly, lying down unless she’s asleep, naps, the swing or bouncy seat for more than 10 minutes

Such a funny, happy girl. I spend all day trying to capture her facial expressions on camera!
