I’ve posted about slow cooker freezer meals before, including the meal planning, prep, and shopping strategies I’ve put into place. I’m very happy to report that not only have I continued, but the whole family has been enjoying these home cooked meals each day! It feels great to eat “real” food (instead of takeout or quick microwaved processed foods) and of course, the money and time savings each day definitely doesn’t hurt.
Of course, I can’t just post a follow-up without sharing recipes, so here goes! Here are a couple more of our new favorites.
Italian Lemon Chicken
- 2-3 pounds of chicken
- 1/6 cup lemon juice (about half a large lemon)
- 1/8 cup water
- 1/4 cup grapeseed, olive, or canola oil *
- 1/4 teaspoon of the following dried spices: garlic powder, basil, oregano, onion powder, kosher salt, black pepper, paprika
Place chicken in freezer bag. Whisk together oil and spices and pour marinade into the bag and freeze flat. 24 hours before cooking, thaw bag in refrigerator to let the chicken marinate as long as possible. Cook on low for 5-6 hours. I served this over rice with steamed veggies on the side. Be sure to break up the chicken meat, place on rice and pour the sauce all over before serving.
*I used grapeseed oil and this has been my favorite recipe yet, and I suspect the type of oil I used has something to do with it!
Teriyaki Pork Chops
- 4 pork chops, about 1-inch thick
- Salt and pepper to taste (you can sprinkle them before you add them to the bag.)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup chicken broth
Add the pork chops, garlic cloves, brown sugar, soy sauce, and chicken broth to the freezer bag and freeze flat. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 6-7 hours. I served this with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli.
- 1 lb chicken tenders
- 3 T olive oil
- 1 cup honey
- 2 T sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 t. salt
- 1 t. pepper
- 1 package frozen broccoli
Place all ingredients in freezer bag, toss to coat and freeze flat. Cook on low for 4-5 hours. Remove chicken & shred, then return to sauce. Serve over hot cooked rice.

I have tried several of the slow cooker freezer meals from sixsistersstuff.com and have loved them! Love your ideas too! Our favorites from the Six Sisters have been the beef with mushrooms served over buttered egg noodles and the creamy salsa chicken rolled into taquitos and served with a Mexican rice that’s pretty quick and easy.

I’ve never tried grapeseed oil but I’ll definitely make the lemon chicken (in Italian dressing)….Thanks for the inspiration.

when the recipe calls for cooking on low for 4-6 hours, and i am gone from the house for about 10-11 hours… How would i do this? Use the keep warm function for 5 hours? Seems really long to be keeping it warm. Afraid it will dry out everything in a huge way. Any tips?

@Julie K.: I was always out of the house for about 10-11 hours as well. I would add a cup of water and rarely dealt with super dry food! Good luck!!
