I’m not really into buying shoes at all and didn’t bother to buy Drake his first pair of shoes until he turned 15 months old and started to walk. I think I might do the same for Juliet, though I admit little girl stuff is a bit harder to resist, and makes it easier to break my “no shoes til they can walk” rule! I usually only buy Drake one pair of shoes per season so I tend to try to buy a little more quality so they can last the entire season. Since the temperatures are starting to drop and Drake has started school, I am on my annual hunt for his fall shoes. Here are some of the options I looked at and considered this year.
I considered all of these other shoes:
1) Livie and Luca Bernal Tweed | 2) Keen Coronado Owl | 3) PediPed Flex Frederick | 4) PediPed Flex Adrian | 5) Sperry Halyard Hook & Loop | 6) Converse Chuck Taylor | 7) Racer Lights by Strite Rite
In the end I broke my own rule and ended up getting Drake 2 pairs of shoes this year, one for everyday wear and one for pre-school so his everyday ones wouldn’t get so beat up on the days he was at school. I got the Pediped Flex Fredericks and got them for a great deal at 6pm.com (they are now sold out because the deal was so great), and a pair of Converse also at a great deal from Kohls. But I managed to get both pairs of shoes for the same price I would have paid for just one pair regularly, so I’m happy with the decision.
Which fall shoes did you buy for your little one?

Anything with a hook and loop gets my vote. And anything sturdy that won’t show dirt!

I basically buy those pedpied adrian shoes in a size up each time my son needs new shoes! They are so great, and easy to put on/get off, yet they stay on. Hubs has little patience for shoes that are hard to get on so they are a fave in our house!

my friend asked me the other day what size shoe my LO is wearing. i was like, shoes? wha? he’s only 8 months old, but i think in a few months he’ll be walking, so thank you for the suggestions!

I bought DD two pairs of SmartFit shoes from Payless: a pair of sneakers and a pair of dress flats. DS doesn’t have any shoes yet but he isn’t walking so I’m with you in the no shoes until they walk camp. I wasn’t that way with DD and the toes on all of her cute shoes were ruined by her crawling.

My daughter is 9 months but I am starting o put shoes on her when we go out only b/c it’s getting cold and I want a bit more protection than just socks.

I always buy at least a pair of sneakers with velcro for preschool. Last fall/winter, my daughter lived in her EMU shoes that I got for $24 off Babysteals. Best purchase ever. So easy to put on, comfy, soft, and warm!

@AprilK: I do the same thing for my daughter – she’s on her third pair of brown velcro pediped isabellas.

I try to stick to 2 pairs of shoes/season. Much easier with my son than my daughter. She’s 1 and has more shoes than he’s had in his 3 years! Opps
(In my defense there are many more options at the consignment stores so I find great deals!)
My son always has to have a pair of cowboy boots! I found a great pair for less than $20 during a good Friday sale last year at a local chain shoe store. He also has a pair of summer sandals – I’m not a flip flop or crocs fan – usually something that covers his toes like Keen’s or a knock off. And tennis shoes.
Bought him a pair of Beeko on 6pm.com this fall and LOVE THEM! I don’t mind spending a little more on shoes because I feel they are important.
I failed my rule and bought both kids matching Toms last time they are on zulily
They are adorable!!

My friend gave me a bunch of her hand me down shoes for my DS. They were in great condition bc her son didn’t wear ten too often. But I’ll probably have to buy new ones for when the youngest DS is in walking age. We usually like Velcro and easy to slip on… Those pictured shoes are adorable!!!

How do you guys decide on which size is going to be right for your toddlers for the next few months, if you’re buying online? Do you take your toddler into a store for a fitting or just buy the next size up?
