It seems everywhere you look this time of year, pumpkin spice is taking over. I am not a huge fan of pumpkin spice, but I get excited anyway, because that means the next flavor of the season is my favorite… peppermint mocha!
In an effort to clean up our eating at home, I have refrained from buying coffee creamer lately. Turns out it is full of all kinds of chemicals. But, I found this recipe for a clean version that you can make at home. (She has a pumpkin spice version too, if that’s your thing!) Since I don’t typically have heavy cream or whole milk at home, I altered the recipe just a bit, and discovered it is just as delicious as the ones you can buy in the store! Better yet, it is cheaper, and I know what’s in it!
Ingredients
- 2 cups half and half
- 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
- 1 tsp peppermint extract
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Sweetener of your choice, to taste (I skip this ingredient and add splenda or stevia when I pour my coffee)
Instructions
- Whisk together half and half, cocoa, and sweetener over medium heat. Heat to steaming.
- Remove from heat and add peppermint and vanilla extract.
- Pour into a container to refrigerat e- I do this by pouring the contents from my pot into the liquid measuring cup, and then pouring into the container (no spills!) Choose a container that will allow you to easily pour into your coffee. I cool mine in a glass mason jar, and then pour it into a plastic Rubbermaid water container for storage in the fridge.
That’s it folks! Delicious peppermint mocha creamer in about 10 minutes! One batch is enough to last about a week in our house, but you could easily double the batch if you wanted to!

Peppermint mocha is my flavor of choice too! It’s totally my kryptonite at Starbucks. I get the SF peppermint mocha frap (venti) with TEN pumps of syrup. It is delicious!
