We LOVE music over here. Music class is our favorite time of the week, and Baby Markers is known to bust a move at the mere jingle of a commercial. Not wanting to deny her the joy she gets every time she hears a funky beat, I started playing music for her during the day. This helps us cut down on screen time and also makes playtime more fun.
Since I was also to be subjected to Baby Markers’ daily soundtrack, I found some albums that are easy on the adult’s ears as well. My favorites are when popular bands remake traditional kids songs like the Itsy Bitsy Spider. The standards are great, but the remakes are much more fun, in my opinion.
These are a few of our current kid-friendly albums on rotation.
Renee & Jeremy / Juice Music / Jackson 5 / For the Kids
Joanie Leeds’ City Kid album tops the list as our favorite!
Rather than download all of these albums, I use spotify to listen to music and create different playlists. I’ve compiled a playlist of our favorite tunes – click the link and you can jam out with your little one too! Note: you have to sign up for spotify to listen, but it’s free!

before LO came along, we weren’t big into music, but now that he’s here we like to play something in the background for him and watch him “dance” every once in a while. so this is perfect timing because i’ve been looking for some music suggestions–thank you!

This post makes me realize that joining spotify would be a great idea. We use Pandora, and the toddler station drives me insane by the end of the day.

This is a great list! I need to try some of these. We have the Renee & Jeremy CD (think it came in a Citrus Lane box) and the “It’s a big world…baby…and you’re little for a little while…” song just kills me. I used to dance around with my daughter when she was just a baby to that song!

I’ve employed my wife to create hours long playlists for every mode of our days for when we have babies – play time, dance party, music time, winding down, lullabies…etc.
I’ve never been a beach boys fan but every baby that I’ve nannied has loved Barbara Ann. Its like they are speaking their language. See also the minions version the banana song.

I love to listen to music with M. I haven’t really gotten too much into the kiddie CD’s (yet) but we have some nursery rhyme ones. I sometimes like to pick a favorite CD and listen while we’re playing or I’ll put Pandora on. I just bought the Queen Rockabye Baby CD today and it sounds so sweet.
