My oh my how the months are flying by! This past month has been slightly more challenging with Miss H getting sick with a terrible cold. However, we count our blessings that this was her first sickness of the winter season (and now it’s officially spring, so that’s exciting!). We juggled minimal sleep, an uncomfortable and clingy toddler, used up too many boogie wipes to count, and battled a tough and stubborn fever. Fortunately, Miss H is back to being the picture of good health and as happy as ever!
As we get closer to the big “2” I can’t believe how much she has changed over the past year. Sometimes it’s easy to miss the little things when you see your child every day, but if I really make myself stop and pay attention, the changes we’ve seen are HUGE. One of the biggest is how conversational Miss H has become. She now regularly asks questions like, “How are you mommy? How was your day?” If she’s playing in her room she yells out a big and excited, “Come here!” to us to come play with her. She’s still quick with “please,” “thank you” and “you’re welcome,” as always, but is getting better and better at using these phrases in context. And, just in general, she’s still our happy, silly, and fun-loving little girl!
Our “state of the family” right now is this:
What we’ve learned: We really need to work more and more on introducing new foods. While Miss H will usually warm up to things, she struggles initially when something isn’t familiar to her. We’re trying to work on that a lot, especially because Miss H will be starting daycare very soon and she won’t have the options she currently does!
What we’re enjoying right now: Fun, laid back family time with Miss H. She’s become more independent and content which means time together is both fun and slightly less exhausting than normal.
What our biggest struggles are: Most recently it has been battling Miss H’s terrible cold, which was followed up by her cutting another molar! So, basically, we’re happy that we’re all starting to get some sleep again.
What has been Miss H’s most exciting milestone: We recently went to a birthday party that had some “older” girls in attendance (ages 7-11). While not exactly a milestone, it was so much fun seeing Miss H interact with these girls. She had so much fun singing and dancing with them and being a part of the group and it was fun having her run up to us and say “I dance!” and then run back to the group.
What we’re looking forward to: Finally seeing some warmer weather so Miss H can have fun at the park again. I think she’s going to be quite the independent girl all over the playground equipment!

Liam’s favorite word right now is “Come!” He’ll say it with mama, dada, the dogs’ names, and even friends and neighbors. It’s cute, but sometimes I feel awkward when he tells people we don’t know that well to come. I need to teach him a more polite way of beckoning people
Miss H is such a cutie!!

I think once she starts daycare she might surprise you by eating better. Peer pressure can be a wonderful thing! And how is she already one month from turning two?! Growing. Too. Fast.

She’s got such an infectious smile! Love it! I loved when independent play started. It’s so much fun watching them play with their imagination. Sometimes I just sit there and watch my youngest (who just turned 2 yesterday!) play. He mostly imitates his older brother with fighting toys (b/c his big bro is into superheroes) but in a very cute way and he’ll giggle along with me when he sees me catch him playing.
My oldest was hard to introduce new foods to. He’s almost 5 and still a bit hard to. My youngest eats almost anything. Every kid is so different!

Wow, that level of conversation seems really advanced! Of course, I have no context yet. Out of curiosity, how much was she talking when she was turned one? I’m interested to see generally what we can expect language-wise in the next year.

@Mrs. Blue: Thanks! At around 1 I feel like her talking was about what you’d expect – mama, dada, etc. And she was using baby sign language more and more – thank you, please, more, etc. But by around 15/16 months she was starting to sing her ABCs (could sing the entire alphabet by 18 months), could identify/say all of her colors and body parts, and was singing a lot of songs. Her language exploded. Now she’s just a big chatterbox and is very conversational. Her conversations with the dog are the cutest: “Charlie! Want to come in my room? Ok! Come here!” Pretty adorable
