I feel like we have tried many shoe brands since J became mobile. Over half were complete duds – as a crawling baby, it was hard to find shoes that didn’t fall off his feet. Given that he was around nine months when winter hit, he needed some type of feet protection. And now as a running, leaping toddler – supportive, quality footwear is even more important.
1. Pedipeds: The first pair of shoes he ever wore were hand-me-downs from my nephew that were Carters brand. They never stayed on his feet longer than five seconds. His first real pair of shoes that we loved were his Pedipeds. They stayed on his feet so well, held up well as he learned to walk and looked cute! For his second pair, I bought him another pair of Pedipeds as well and the quality was so great that even on a newly-walking one-year-old, they still looked new by the time he outgrew them.
2. Stonz: For a non-mobile baby that needs winter protection, we loved the Stonz boots. We actually found them on clearance at a local store, which made them even more worth the expense. If you live in a cold climate like ours, or walk outdoors a lot with your little one, I highly recommend these boots!
3. Umi: A family friend gave him his next pair of shoes and I have fallen in love with them as well. Umi is a great, high-quality brand as well; the price point, however, is a little higher than even Pedipeds.
4. Converse: Concurrently we also used Converse Chuck Taylors because they are absolutely adorable, and we became big fans. I am excited to get him another pair.
5. Stride Rite: For his first summer sandal as a walking toddler, we bought some Stride Rites from a local children’s shoe store. Although they were great quality as well, they took a beating! My one-year-old was very clumsy last summer and by the end of the summer, the shoes were scuffed up. But they protected his feet very well and had a great look to them.
6. See Kai Run: We have had two different pairs of SKR’s and been impressed with the quality and craftsmanship. It’s important the shoes are easy to move in on little feet and these fit the bill.
Between these tried-and-true brands, I am always able to find quality shoes at good prices. To get good deals, I shop diaper.com sales and the sales on the websites of each brand. But I’ve had the best luck at a local kids’ retailer I found that has a constant cycle of shoes in clearance. I like to check out the selection each season. Occasionally consignment stores such as Once Upon a Child or Just Between Friends have some good steals too!
What are your favorite kids shoe brands?

LO is doing a lot of walking in her walker and learning to crawl. We’ve been putting her in Robeez and LOVE them. They stay on, and keep her feet safer and cleaner. I appreciate these suggestions for when she’s more mobile!

We also really like Tsukihoshi for sneakers. They are great for wide feet and high arches like my kids have. And they are machine washable. I search for them on sale and discount stores and stock up on sizes, otherwise they are just too expensive for me.

LO is SO picky about shoes. She loved her winter boots and were so worried about getting her to wear another pair. We tried shoes from Target and Carters and she refused them, so i just took them back. I bought her a second pair of Pink Converse and she literally slept with them last night.
We also did Pedipeds when she was learning to walk and they held up wonderfully. For the summer, you can’t beat Salt Water sandals. They looks brand new at the end of the summer, we will definately buy those again this year.

C needs new shoes so this is so helpful! We have stuck with stride rites for the most part, but I am open to anything easy to get on and off a squirmy toddler

R has a bunch of SKR and I love them. She has one pair from Stride Ride but they are just so expensive, $40 for one pair. But the SKR were cutting into the top of her feet so we needed a shoe that went higher ASAP, so SR was it. I just ordered some sneakers (hard soled) from SKR. Their shipping is just SO slow. She has a couple pairs from Target but has only worn one so far a couple times.

Great list! I would add Robeez! It’s our favorite pre-walker/early toddler shoe brand.

I used many of these brands including Pedipeds, Stride Rite, and See Kai Runs.

I saw SKR mentioned on another thread and wondered what it stood for – here’s my answer
We love Keens, they hold up well as we were given some toddler/preschooler sizes as hand-me-downs that have survived two boys already, and they still look pretty good. Keen is also an ethical company which is important to us.

SKR and SR are our favorites so far, among other ‘adult’ brands that make baby shoes (ie New Balance)
Great list!

our daughter’s first two pairs of shoes were See Kai’s and then we bought some StrideRite boots. Both brands have been really great.

My fave are toms. M’s are crocs. Guess what he wears ALL THE TIME…crocs. Winter crocs, summer crocs, blue crocs, crocs with cars. They’re all hand me down, thankfully!
We loved lands end boots this winter. They were great!

Big fan of Stride Rites, and I can usually find good deals on them at Nordstroms on clearance. Natives are by far DS1’s favorite summer shoes. Pricey but worth it.

Pretty much all of DS’s shoes were purchased used. We love the Stride Rites and the See Kai Run ones that we have!

When Liam was first learning to walk, I bought expensive shoes like SKR and stride rite, but now, I must confess, I buy cheapies like Old Navy and H&M. If I spend a lot of money, his shoes still get thrashed, and he grows out of them quickly, so I just can’t justify spending a lot.

I loved the stride rite sandals. They definitely took a beating but they didn’t fall apart like other brands.

SKR and Natives are favourites in our house. I wish more people would jump on the Native bandwagon…they’re amazing!!

My favorites are SKR and Pedipeds, but have been curious about SR’s because everyone raves about them. Haven’t tried them myself yet though!

J has chunky feet and almost always wears Vans. Vans are wider than other brands and are really supportive for a very active little guy.
We also loved Uggs in the winter and Crocs in the summer.
