Last year, I decided to use a picture of Liam eating his birthday cake on the front of his thank you note. To save on postage and paper, I ordered postcards from Zazzle instead of folded or flat cards with envelopes, and I remember seeing them on friends’ and family’s refrigerators for months after the party. I decided to make it a tradition and order photo postcards again to use as thank you notes this year. At first, I put the words “Thank You” over the image on the front, but I decided to just leave the picture as it is because then relatives can frame it as a print, if they want, and nobody would know there was a thank you message on the back. While any thank you note is a nice gesture, I think this is an easy way to make them extra special.

This is the image we chose for the front of Liam’s thank you note postcards this year.

This year, we left the back of the postcard blank and filled in personal messages to each person, thanking them for the gifts they gave. Last year, we asked the guests of Liam’s party to bring donations to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles instead of gifts, so I ordered them with a preprinted message on the back, thanking them for their donations, and wrote in their names and addresses.

While buying some generic cards at the store or having an older child make cards out of paper would definitely be more cost effective options, the postcards are also photo prints, so I think the cost is worth it. I ordered 30 postcards both times and, after a 15% discount code, paid about $30 including shipping.

I hope to continue to send photo postcards as thank you notes, and I look forward to the time when Liam can write them himself!
