Gender reveal parties are all the rage these days, and while I wish I could’ve had all of our friends and family around to celebrate and eat pink or blue cake, our circumstances didn’t allow that to happen.
Since my husband couldn’t be by my side for the anatomy scan, I came up with the next best thing: a gender reveal care package! You can see all the details about the package here.
The plan was to video chat so he could open the package and we could find out the gender of our baby together.
A few things about the video:
- Sorry it’s so long. I edited it down as best I could, but I’ve only worked with videos a handful of times. The actual reveal happens around 2 minutes, so I won’t blame you if you stop watching after that.
- When he’s deployed, we always use Gmail’s voice/video feature to chat (Skype never works well for us), but Google+ took over and I absolutely hate their new layout. I’m in the very tiny screen on the bottom…you can barely see me, but you can hear me. (Sorry about my voice—I was a little bit excited and my voice went up like five octaves.)
- Mister Rabbit totally cries, even though he denies it.
I’ll stop rambling and cut to the chase already. Here’s our gender reveal video:
And in case you didn’t watch the video (really? Like you don’t have 8 minutes to spare? Kidding!), here’s all you really need to know:
It’s………..
a……….
(WAIT-FOR-IT………)
……………….
Since I couldn’t keep the secret for very long, I posted the picture above on Facebook so our friends and family knew what we were having, then I posted the video for all to see a few days later.
Did you have a unique gender reveal?

Super sweet! Just a point of reference, for all Hellobee bloggers, “gender reveal” is incorrect. When you are finding out, or revealing, if the baby is a boy or a girl- that is their biological sex. Gender, refers to how a person identifies- male or female.

Aww so sweet.
We found out in the delivery room. My MW held up the baby, but the umbilical cord was in the way so DH couldn’t see very clearly and was petrified of getting it wrong. I heard the MW whisper “boy” and then DH totally non-nonchalantly (through tears too!) said, “it’s a boy.”
