My last pregnancy I felt like I never found a comfortable bra, and that transferred into nursing, where I never seemed to find a comfortable nursing bra. Whether it was cups that didn’t fit well or straps that dug into my shoulders, I just never found a winner.
This pregnancy, I’ve quickly grown out of my regular bras, but don’t quite fit in the larger bras that I wore right after I stopped nursing. Nothing has been comfortable or felt supportive enough. With no real time to hit up a store to shop and try on in person, when some friends suggested the Coobie Bra, I decided to just go for it, because at that point nothing could be worse than what I was already wearing.
As soon as I started browsing the web site, I was in fo r one startling fact: there were no sizes to choose from! Really, a “one size fits all” bra? This was strangely exciting to me, as trying to really figure out what size I am right now is difficult, and I know that my size is going to continue to change during my pregnancy.
I went with the styles recommended by a friend:
Coobie Bra Scoopneck & Coobie Bra V-Neck Lace Trim
And while they offer quite the array of colors, I opted for nude or black. Boring basics!
Still skeptical, I anxiously awaited for my new bras to arrive in the mail. When they finally did (probably within a week of ordering) I anxiously slipped one on immediately after getting home from work. I was instantly in heaven! I felt comfortable and well supported. The straps were perfect and didn’t dig into my shoulders. There was no wire or other hard edges to dig into my sides. While these bras appear almost as if they’re sports bras, they have padded cups in them so you feel a little bit more feminine and covered. And I’ve found that the elastic band at the bottom provides the right level of support.
The negatives? I would imagine that if you are incredibly large-chested, this might not be the most supportive bra for you (although they do make “full size” versions of their bras, which I would think would incorporate more support). For reference, I was a 36B pre-pregnancy. Additionally, they do give a little bit of a “uni-boob” effect that you would get from a sports bra. The padding and the shape that they incorporate into the design do help to minimize this effect, but opting for this type of bra instead of a traditional bra means you’re going to lose that perfect cleavage. The bras are also a bit high in the front, so if you have a deep V-neck shirt or dress on you’ll probably see a little bit of the bra. It ends up looking the same as a tank top, which is fine if it doesn’t bother you; I don’t think anyone else would be able to tell that it’s really a bra.
I’ve happily been wearing a Coobie bra every day for the past 2 weeks. While there are some drawbacks to the style, the overall level of comfort and the fact that these are bras that should continue to fit me throughout my pregnancy easily makes them my go-to every day.
Have you ever had a major “bra revelation?”

Too funny! I had the same experience–I made it until 36 weeks until changing bras and I found the coobie bra at a nursing store. They are the best. I know that supposedly it can be a nursing bra but I found it was best for just pregnancy.

Your post is so timely!! I had delayed pain and growth (I’m now 15 weeks), and in the last week have needed overnight bras. I have three of these on their way!

I recently discovered Victoria Secret’s bralette? It’s amazing. They offer a similar option to these Coobie bras, but they also offer one with more of plunge. Both options come in various colors and with lace options. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t walk out of the store with mine on & purchased it in two other colors. (About $22-$24/ea.)
Since then, I’ve purchased several more as gifts for my fellow prego/new mama friends. Not only are they super comfy, but they actually make me feel sexy (or as sexy as I can being 8 months pregnant).

Why are bras so uncomfortable when you’re pregnant? I love the Gillian & O’Malley version at Target, but I’ll definitely check these out!

Nordstroms Rack has a similar bra for like $5 (no joke!). In a million colors! I have 20 of them and wore them throughout my pregnancy and nursing days!

UUgh! I so wanted this to work, sadly, even their “full size” version will not accommodate my 34DDD (pre-pregnancy) size. I really struggled last pregnancy to find a supportive bra without the underwire digging into the bump. I must have bought 20 different bras and each one was another disappointment. The search continues…

I love my Coobie bras and tanks. I’ve never been pregnant but they’re so comfortable to wear on a regular basis I’m sure they’d be great during pregnancy. I wish their tube top styler as were just a wee bit smaller but other than that I love them.

Is it wrong that I want these for under my looser summer shirts?!

I have “pregnant” bras that are huge versions of my normal bras. The bravado seamless silk nursing bras are also great for pregnancy. They look a lot like these. Nothing sexy to them, but they’re comfortable.
