Since Drake is in school right now, he loves coming home to tell me all about the things he has learned. We had such a cold and snowy winter this year, one of the snowiest since Drake’s birth, and he was very keen on the idea that it was winter and that it snows in winter time. Now that the leaves are starting to come out, he has noticed the change in the weather and is excited about the idea of spring finally. He knows his birthday is in summer time, so he tells me how it’s only one more season until he turns 5. All of this season talk has made me want to find some books about each season to promote his interests as well as continue on with the information he is learning at school.

Animals in Winter – Nothing will get Drake interested more than animals these days and this looks like a fun read to see what animals we can see in the winter months.

The Snowy Day – A timeless classic about a first snow fall. I remember hearing this one as a child and now I get to share it with my own child!

Blizzard – Based on the author’s experience of the blizzard of 78 that hit New England, this book explores snow from a child’s perspective. I still remember the huge ice storm of 96 when I was growing up and the mountains of snow and the days off from school.

Snow Rabbit Spring Rabbit – The illustrations are lovely and it will be interesting to see how animals change and adapt through the seasons.

Spring Is Here -Much like the title, I think everyone is always excited after a long winter to welcome finally spring.

Finding Spring – Little Bear is ready for spring and sets  out to find it instead of hibernating. The book has dioramas and cut-paper collages, and the cover illustration is beautiful.

Fletcher and the Spring Blossoms – This is a series based on Fletcher the fox as he explores each season. Drake has the fall one and really likes it.

Planting A Rainbow – While not directly about spring, nothing brings in spring better than all those beautiful blossoms. We have heard this one at story time a the library, and it’s a favorite for both my kids. Drake loves the transition of colors and always talks about planting our own little rainbow garden.

Let it Shine – Summer time, school’s out and it’s the perfect weather for the beach. This is a series of books about the seasons as well, and Drake has all four as a gift from his last year’s teacher. Of all of them I think summer is his favorite because he loves the beach

Summer Days & Nights – A cute story about what a little girl does on those long summer days where the sun shines for hours and there is endless time to play. The illustrations really grab me in their soft palette, perfect for summertime.

Mama Is It Summer Yet – Drake is always asking when it’ll be summer because he knows it’s his birthday. This book also has a lot of beautiful cut out paper illustrations that I can’t wait to check out.

The Night Before Summer Vacation – A twist on the classic ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas, this is a fun remake as the kids get ready for their first summer vacation!

Apples and Pumpkins – Nothing says fall quite as much as apple and pumpkin picking and this little girl is off to find the perfect produce to start off the fall season with its many festivities.

Fall Leaves – The cover of this book is outstanding; it really looks like a fall evening. The book is part poem and part narrative as we explore all the changes fall brings.

Fall Mixed Up – A little ball mixes up his month and wackiness ensues. Drake is all about finding wacky wrong things these days after reading Dr Seuss’ Wacky Wednesday so I think he would love this book.

Fall Harvest: Bringing In Food – There is lots to be done as the leaves change and I like that this book talks about all the crops we harvest as the seasons change.

Seasons, Rhymes in Time – I think this book is a little older for Drake, but it includes songs, poems, and pictures about each season which seems like it would be fun to explore together.

The Reason for Seasons – Drake asks a lot of questions these days about why things happen, like why leaves fall or the weather gets colder, and this book might help explain some of it in real world terms of how our world works.

Watching the Seasons – The cover reminds me of a Baby Einstein episode Drake used to love watching when he was younger. I think seasons are easiest to explain when looking at a tree like example on the cover where you can see the difference the seasons make. This book delves into the facts at a pace younger readers can follow and comprehend.
