In my continual efforts to get more veggies into my kids and my own life, I recently decided to try making veggie smoothies for a week. Drake took a class he loved where one of the activities was making a smoothie, so I thought it was a great way to piggy back off that experience. Smoothies are a great way to sneak some veggies into your kids, while also allowing them to help in the kitchen (something Drake loves to do).
Day 1 – Spinach Berry Smoothie via Sunny with a Chance of Sprinkles
- 1 banana (a frozen banana will make it colder)
- 3 strawberries
- 1 handful blueberries
- 1/2 cup spinach
- 1 cup blueberry Greek yogurt
- 2 ice cubes
- 1 cup of milk
Day 2 – Carrot Orange Smoothie via Babble
- 1 cup carrots (peeled, chopped)
- 1 orange (peeled, chopped)
- 1 banana (frozen, chopped)
- 1 cup ice
- 1 cup orange juice
Day 3 – Blueberry Spinach Smoothie via Adventures at Naptime
- 1.5 cups frozen blueberries
- 1 banana
- 1 cup raw spinach
- 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (you can also use Greek yogurt)
- 8 oz unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tb honey
- 2 tb flax seed
Day 4 – Cinnamon Apple Green Smoothie via Magic Bullet Blog
- 1 cup raw organic spinach
- 1 cup organic coconut water
- 1 small organic banana (peeled, chopped and frozen)
- 1 small organic apple (peeled, cored and chopped)
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ⅓ cup crushed ice (optional)
Day 5 – Spinach Pear Banana Green Smoothie via Family Sponge
- 1 pear
- 1 banana
- 2 cups spinach
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
- honey (optional)
I’m now eagerly looking up new recipes for our next week. I hope we can become more adventurous with our mix ins and make up our own concoctions along the way as well. I found this chart on Coupons.com and am starting to look at the more daring veggies like beets and kale.
Of all the smoothies Drake enjoyed the Spinach Berry and Cinnamon Apple most, with the Orange Carrot being a close third. Do you have a favorite smoothie recipe for your kids?

How do you measure the spinach? Cram in as much as you can or lightly fill the measuring cup?

Mm the carrot orange one looks interesting! Will have to try it.
We make our smoothies with kefir, bananas, frozen blueberries, frozen fruits (peach, strawberries, peaches, pineapple), plain Greek yogurt, flax seed, chia seeds, handful of spinach or kale and cranberry pomegranate juice. If you blend the liquid and veg first you don’t notice it at all!

i usually throw together what we have which is frozen kale or spinach, fruit (usually a banana + something else because banana makes it sweet), a little bit of milk, unsweetened almond milk, chia seeds, and hemp seeds. I find I don’t like the taste of flax seeds, but I can’t taste chia and hemp at all and always keep them on hand.

@Mamaof2: I just try to cram as much in there as possible
Drake doesnt like the “green stuff” when we make it so I try to make it fun by letting him grab handfuls and stuffing it in to help the appeal lol

@Mrs. Bee: I can’t taste the flax seed in ours at all! I started adding it because some hber said it helps with BF supply.
