Like most moms, I’m shocked how quickly time flies by! I swear I was just a wreck of a newbie mom a second ago. Baby Pencil’s current 1 year stats are:

  • Weight 22 lbs 4 oz
  • Height 30 inches

Current likes and dislikes:

  • loves to clap
  • loves to cruise and is starting to stand on his own
  • loves to combine the first two and stand and clap!
  • loves to pound on things like a drum, especially daddy’s belly
  • loves playing with any kind of packaging
  • loves stroller walks
  • loves being led to walk with assistance
  • loves to crawl like a mad man
  • dislikes diaper changes with a burning passion
  • dislikes cuddles longer than .5 seconds
  • dislikes changing into his PJs for night sleep

I’m pretty lucky that he doesn’t seem to be a fussy or picky baby. He is generally in a great mood and smiles and laughs a lot. He’s definitely turning into a little human being that has preferences! It’s the craziest thing to witness right before my eyes.

Newest skills and interactions:

  • can say “cheese” and “bread” by saying “chh!!” and “ba!”
  • claps his hands when he’s happy or wants more (I think he got confused with the clapping and the sign language for “more.”)
  • can take about 1-2 steps without assistance
  • can take two objects and bang them together
  • can memorize how to open the flaps in his flap books
  • can crawl forever
  • started to have random bits of stranger danger with only certain people
  • seems intrigued by older kids and kind of ignores or side plays by younger babies

The hardest thing transitioning to the 1 year mark was food! I had no idea how much solids to give him, what to introduce him to, when to feed him and when to let him eat his own food (which takes forever), and also how to lessen his milk and transition to cow’s milk. By his 1 year appointment, he was eating 3x a day and having milk 3x a day. He was still using a bottle but uses a sippy cup for water.

Here is his meal schedule:

7:00am – Morning milk
8:00am – Oatmeal cereal and fruit
11:30/12:00pm – Solid feeding (chunky puree with rice, veggies and a protein), then some finger foods like pieces of bread and cheese. Some “dessert” yogurt.
1:30/2:00pm – Afternoon milk
5:30pm – Solids (chunky puree with rice, veggies, and a protein), then more finger foods like cut up carrots or broccoli with cheese. Another “dessert” finger food like strawberries.
7:00pm – Bedtime milk

During my  1 year check up, the pediatrician told me that I can start decreasing his milk so that he has about 15 oz per day. That seemed incredible to me, because at some point he was drinking 30 oz! My goodness, this parenting thing is so difficult to catch up with! Here’s my big boy!
