When I was in LA recently, I wore one of my mom’s many visors when I was out walking their dog or at the beach. Asian women love huge, oversized, uv-protecting visors because they take their sun protection seriously. I’d deemed them too uncool to wear, but they did such a great job of keeping the sun off my entire face (even though I wasn’t wearing one of those space-age uv visors… though my mom certainly has one of those too). Since having kids I spend so much time in the sun, and I really need more sun protection. I get hot easily though, and a hat makes me even hotter so I can’t wear them in the summer months. Enter the visor. It provides sun protection while keeping the top of my head cool. High-end designers make them, celebrities wear them, and there are actually some pretty cute visors out there.

I’m tempted to get a straw one and a basic black one. Amazon, Nordstrom and ebay are great places to look.
Am I just losing my fashion sense in my old age, or is this something you would try?

I bought a straw one in Florida last week and never looked back. I will be updating my visor closet with some of these cute ones you have posted. I get to wear my hair in a bun and keep the sun off my face? WIN.

Never in a million years would I wear those old Asian women visors, but the ones you posted are really cute and I could see myself in one!

I like full hats so i don’t have to worry about scalp burn which does happen to me. The visors posted here are pretty cute!

@BoogieBea: yep that’s what happened to me. I was at the beach with my mom and forgot my hat so she gave me a visor type hat and my scalp got burnt! ouch! I will stay with full hats!

I wear a Nike one on sunny days. It’s more athletic, less fashionable or nerdy, I think. Goes wth the yoga pants I never do yoga in.

@BoogieBea: @Mamaof2: agree!!! I will keep my kids in full hats. Both girls have a wide brim Columbia hat that has mesh on the sides that go on the head. It allows their head to breathe.
@Foodnerd81: LOL to the yoga comment!

I have thick, curly hair, can’t do hats and have always worn a visor on those days when sunglasses aren’t enough.

I’ve previously only worn them as a joke for birthdays or bachelorette parties (like a whole group of us wearing hot pink ones with the sunglasses-material visor part – total old Asian lady style!)
After a hot day at the park today and rushing out the door without a fresh coat of sunscreen, I’d totally wear the straw one!

I wouldn’t wear a huge one, but I’ve been wearing visors for a long time at the beach and for playing tennis. They give you sun protection and it’s not as hot as wearing a full hat. I haven’t had a problem with scalp burn …

I never have, but I like that first straw one! However at $150, um no. And it’s Sold Out.

Haha, I actually just happened to buy a woven straw one today at target! I have a terrible head for hats but visors do work for me. I joked to my BFF that I look like the “Asian mom”.. who am I kidding, I totally am!

YES I am looking for one! I live where there are many families from Asia and the women wear them and look lovely. I like to wear a high pony tail, so it would be nice to just be able to strap on a visor without having to undo my style. I am also in search of the ideal sun hat…

I wonder if they make the last ones you posted for adults. I like how its like a headband. I might try one for our Florida trip since I hate how hot my head gets in a hat.

Oh thanks for this post. I always have my hair in braids or some other hairstyle that is thick and ordinary hats just don’t cut it, but I didn’t know there were cute visors! I’ve only seen ones that weren’t so cute. Definitely checking out Amazon now

Hahaha. That top one is cute but I’m not sure about the others!! My mom wears the big golf visors and I’ve borrowed one once or twice. I think I would just prefer a big straw hat!

My hair is so bushy that I look terrible in visors and hats unless I straighten it. I might consider one like the little girls are wearing though.

ha no on the visor! I have seen asian females wearing visor while driving. LOL

You have to be fashionable enough to pull it off… I totally think Mrs. Bee is and Olive would look adorable. I would look like a dork on vacation.
