A couple of years ago, we made a DIY Alphabet Book for one of our friend’s baby showers. We did this in lieu of a game since this was her second child, and she didn’t want her guests to have to play any games. This idea has been floating around Pinterest with many examples, but I couldn’t find a template for it so I created my own.
Supplies:
- Recollections 8×8 album from Michaels
- Recollections Scrapbook Refill
- Upper case and lower case alphabet stickers or you can write them in yourself with marker
- Cardstock paper to print out your pages
- Alphabet Book Template
- Paper cutter
- Crayons, markers, and markers
- Print out 26 pages of the template on cardstock.
- Trim 4 inches from the top and 1 in from the right margin of each page.
- Place one upper case and one lower case letter on each page or you can handwrite it.
- You can leave the pages out since guests will have to draw on them later on.
At the shower, you can display everything on a table and put the art supplies in cups or mason jars. Our friend designed the directions card, but here’s a simple one here that you can print out and put on the table. If you are creative, you can create one on your own by using the following words:
Alphabet Book
This project will be made into Baby Boy’s first alphabet book. Please join us and decorate a page/s of your choice.
- Choose a letter page.
- Using markers, crayons or colored pencils, decorate the page by drawing something that begins with that letter and writing that object in the line below the picture. Ex: A- draw an apple and write the word Apple.
- When finished, please sign your name at the bottom of the page.
- Place finished page in the basket.
You are welcome to do more than one page!
Most guests first drew with a pencil before coloring their drawings. After all the pages were done, we put the book together by putting two pages into each insert.
The guests had a great time drawing and coloring. The best part was that the mother-to-be got such a wonderful keepsake! Here are some of my favorite pages!

Love this! I’m cohosting a baby shower in September for a mom-to-be that hates being the center of attention – this might be a winner!

We did this for a shower and it turned out great. One other things that I did to make it easier on any “non-artistic” guests, was printed out an image for each letter that the guests could tape on the sheet and color if they did not want to draw something.
