Just the other day I realized that it had been a while since I had written a blog post—and by a while I mean five months—so I figured it was time I jump back in! We have gone through a ton of big life changes recently, and now that the dust is settling I thought I would do a quick update post on what we’ve been up to. Here are the highlights of our last few months:
We moved back home. I sure enjoyed the gorgeous sunny days down in Monterey, but I am so happy to be back home in Seattle! Even with the blustery weather lately it’s been so nice to be back home near family and friends. We are back amongst the greenery of the Pacific Northwest and loving it.
Here we are in front of our old house before moving day
Mr. Deer has changed careers. He is out of the military and currently working as an EMT while applying for firefighting jobs. This was such a huge step for him and I’m so proud that he’s working towards something he’s really excited and passionate about. Not to mention it’s fun to share some medical knowledge now too!
I’ve gone back to work. I’m a nurse again, yay! Though returning to the field after a 2.5 year hiatus proved to be way more challenging than I anticipated, I found an amazing job. Before having the girls I worked in a pediatric ICU environment. Though I was a little sad to let that go, I’m two weeks into my work as a pediatric clinic nurse and I absolutely love it. I’m really enjoying being in primary care and it’s so fun that everything I’m learning is applicable to the girls and their health and growth as well.
Saying goodbye to the girls before heading out for my first day of work
Baby Deer will be one next month. Oh my goodness! I can’t even believe it. I can’t pinpoint exactly when it happened, but we finally moved from surviving with a newborn to thriving with two sweet girls. Baby Deer is an absolute sweetheart, albeit a strong and very stubborn sweetheart. She’s just started walking and is into everything. I love this age; it seems like every day she’s discovering and doing something new.
Little Deer is potty trained. Finally!!! This is a post in itself, but third time proved to be a charm with this little lady. Besides rocking the potty, LD is growing in every which way. Her speech, compassion, sharing, playing… she is truly growing up. I can’t believe in a few short months that she’ll be three.
These two girls have enjoyed the warm Seattle summer
And lastly (of which I am very excited about)…
The baby weight is finally coming off! Thank goodness! I also hope to share in another post some tips I’ve found useful this time around with exercising and healthy eating. It’s been a lot of trial and error but I’ve finally found a routine that seems to be working. One month down and 10 pounds less so far! Lots of work still left to do but I’m up for the challenge.
I hope to see more of you all around here as I transition back to blogging more!

So happy to hear all is well for your beautiful family! Any chance you’ll be writing an update on Baby Deer’s mspi/fpies? We’ve been dealing with something similar, and I would be interested to hear if she’s outgrown any of it and how she’s doing on solids.

Thanks you all!
Hi Dawn! – I’ll try to do an FPIES post soon but fortunately there isn’t too much new to report. She’s done well on solids mainly because I’ve avoided the top trigger foods (sweet potato, dairy, rice, oats, and eggs). I think after her first birthday well begin trailing those foods, yikes!

Thank you so much for the update- thrilled to hear she is doing well! Every fpies kid is different, but rice, sweet potatoes, and eggs were all easy passes for us, so I hope they are for you as well. We haven’t tried oats, dairy, or soy yet on the advice of our allergist. Thanks again, and I hope she continues to do so well!
