Charlie and Olive both love drawing so much, and it can easily keep them occupied for hours. When we let them pick out a toy at the toy store, they will often choose arts and crafts supplies. We’ve experimented with all kinds of mediums from crayons to colored pencils, pastels, markers, pens, pencils, paint, and more. But at this age (4 and almost 6), they really prefer markers best for their ease of use and bold colors. We own all the items on this guide (although I’m saving a couple of them for our trip)!

Fun Drawing Supplies

1) glitter markers – Olive used these markers until they ran out so I bought another set.

2) triple tip markers  and 3) stamper markers – fun twists on markers!

4) metallic markers – Olive is drawn to anything that is glittery and shimmery.

5) watercolor pencils – You add water to your drawings after you use these pencils to give them a cool watercolor effect.

6) metallic pencils

7) glitter gel pens

8) color changing markers – Another fun twist on regular markers.

9) gel pens – I bought this two pack of gel pens because I just bought myself an adult coloring book! We previously had this set from Fiskars that the kids loved and used up.

10) scented markers – They’re not washable but they are a lot of fun.

11) spirograph – I bought Charlie a mini spirograph on our last trip and he loved it. He received this version for his birthday that I’m excited for him to have.

12) heart stencil & star stencil – Both kids are super into stencils. Some of their favorite things to draw are hearts, stars, and rainbows (haven’t been able to find a rainbow stencil yet), and stencils make it easy to get them just right.

13) small stencil – These stencils are pretty small, but there is a huge variety and the kids love them.

14) primary shapes stencil
