I love Montessori toddler areas. My nephew is visiting over Christmas, and I wanted to create a play area just for him. I wanted a space where he can sit and work comfortably. A space where he can come and relax, perhaps read a book.
I’ve used a low work table and chair, some toddler shelves and a nice soft rug.
On the shelves we have some simple matching puzzles (similar), short to tall puzzle (similar), a couple of board books, stacking cubes (I didn’t include the largest cube), matching model animals to cards, a Jack-in-the-box (similar) and some textured shaped balls. On the table I currently have some model insects. We also have this Doorbell House which we are giving him for Christmas.
I can’t wait to see if this area works for our little visitor, but if not I have a few more ideas and we can mix it up to suit his needs.
Do you keep a few toys spare for when family or friends with children visit?

How did his visit go? Did he enjoy the work you put into the room for him? Do you have a link to that amazing wall map?

This is a gorgeous space! I’m trying to rearrange my home to fit a more Montessori style, and this gives me a great frame of reference

@mediagirl: Yes he loved it. The little Jack in the Box was the biggest hit – I recommend for anyone of this age. I am in Australia and the wall map is here: https://www.thewallstickercompany.com.au/products/World-Map-Poster.html

Hello! I am preparing my nursery for my twins that are arriving soon and love the shelf you have pictured here. Is there a link to where this particular shelf is available? I love the detail and it is much more beautiful than the furniture at the Montessori websites
