Above is sock matching. The child could do this with socks while you are folding the laundry. Matching could also be done with mittens or with shoes.

Sorting cutlery. We have this Melissa and Doug Mealtime Utensil Set but everyday cutlery would work as well. Giving the child some cutlery to sort is a fun way to keep a them busy while you are working in the kitchen or doing the dishes.

Matching containers and lids at How we Montessori

Matching container and lids. Toddlers often love to play with containers. Why not give them some containers with lids and see if they can match them up?

Matching Buttons at How we Montessori

Sorting buttons. We use craft buttons which are suitable for colour matching. However many homes have buttons in sewing kits or spare buttons that the child can use for matching under supervision.

All of these activities are fantastic for the child’s visual discrimination and coordination!
