Here we are! Three years old.
It’s so unbelievable for me to think that Isaiah is actually that old. I mean, he was just born.
Isaiah is a very healthy, very big boy. At his three year check, he was 95% in height and weight. He is extremely active, and never stops moving. I would love to limit our television time, but it has been winter in Indiana, so he has been watching a lot of it. He is utterly in love with Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and The Magic School Bus. He loves anything with wheels or a propeller, and adores being outside. I’m shocked daily by the things he knows and says.
He is not potty trained yet. He sits on the potty and we talk about it a lot, but nothing has happened. I have read the different methods, and at this point don’t want to stress all of us out about it. Right now, we’re going to take it easy. I spoke with his pediatrician about it at his appointment and he seemed to agree with our stance.
Isaiah goes to GrandmaCare since I went back to work. It works out well for us financially, but I wish he could have more social interaction. Ultimately though, this is the best arrangement for us. He does get to go to Child Watch at the Y, which he absolutely loves.
Parenting:
We’re still learning so much. We took a no spanking stance early on, and have stuck with it. So far a time out chair has been effective, and the hardest part for me is staying strong to follow though. We do though, and it seems to be working for us. We joined a new church that we love and had Isaiah baptized last fall.
I miss being a SAHM, but I also really enjoy interacting with other adults. I really struggled when I went back to work because I didn’t have enough hours in the day to keep my house the way I wanted and parent and work. I’ve relaxed some and accepted that I just can’t do it all anymore.
Life after foster care:
I’ve posted a few times about how foster care had a lasting impact on our lives. It has been a little over a year since our foster son went back with his dad, and we still haven’t had any contact. We’ve heard through family members that everything is well, but we haven’t made contact. I still worry about him, and I miss him a lot. If anything, foster care gave me a lot of perspective into raising Isaiah. It was the most stressful situation I’ve ever been in, but it helped me to appreciate the good times.
The future:
I’ve been asked at least four times in the last week if we’re adopting again. Right now we don’t have any plans to. That’s not to say not ever. We’re always open to family changes, we just aren’t working with an agency right now to be matched. We’re getting along really well right now as a family of three. We’ve both accepted that this might be our family, and we might never conceive. I have no plans to resume fertility treatments.
So that’s where we are, and that’s where I’ve been. We’re doing great. A little less connected to the internet than I was when I was off work, but I’m still around.

I’m SO GLAD to see an update from you! He is so, so handsome! Sounds like he’s doing great. Also, I love that cake! What great idea! Where did you get the “3” that you sprinkled glitter around?
So glad that going back to work is working for you guys too. I hope you’re able to post more as I’d love to hear more about how life and parenting is going for you all.
Also, I have a friend who didn’t PT her son until he was 3.5 and she said it ended up being super easy since he was so much older, so I think he will be just fine whenever the time comes.

@Mrs. Pinata: I made the “3”! I draw the number on aluminum foil, cut it out, stick it to the frosting, put the sprinkles on around it, then peel the foil off carefully. That’s it.
