On Monday afternoon at 3:41PM, we welcomed the first of the Starfish twinblings! We will refer to her as “Baby Star Light” on Hellobee.

On Sunday evening, I went in for an induction after Baby Star Light’s growth had become even more restricted. She was born weighing 5 pounds, 7 ounces and measuring 19 inches long. The labor process was relatively easy and quick, and Baby Star Light was born on only the fourth push.

However, as my doctor tried to get the placenta out, things took a very scary and rough turn. The placenta got stuck in my uterus, and after unsuccessful intervention after Baby Star Light’s delivery, the decision was made to admit me to the operating room for an emergency D&C to try to get the placenta out. I don’t remember very much of the next few hours, but the bottom line is that the doctors were still unable to fully retrieve the placenta from my uterus. I also lost a great deal of blood during the procedures.

This has all meant a difficult recovery process for me. The day after delivery, my blood loss had gotten to such a poor state that a blood transfusion was necessary. I honestly don’t remember very much of the day after Baby Star Light’s birth because I was very sick and discombobulated. Yesterday, the decision was made to do some testing (ultrasound and MRI) to determine the current state of the placenta. A high risk doctor has been consulted and today the decision was made to start me on methotrexate to try to kill off the remaining living cells of the placenta. I am being watched extremely carefully, but we are feeling relieved today that we finally received clearance to finally check out of the hospital this afternoon.

Mr. Starfish and I are trying to focus on our precious little baby girl as we work through these post-delivery complications. She is totally and completely worth all of the complications, and thankfully she has passed all of her tests with flying colors and is a favored baby in the nursery due to her calm and sweet demeanor. We can’t wait to take her home today and get into a rhythm as a new family!
